Never had this problem. Does "just what it says on the tin".

Hi,

I wasn't experiencing this problem until I have been flying in Europe. Now I have flown over Island and Greenland to Canada (unofficial WWT II ) and it started ...

So I have made a test. I have flew two very similar filghts with C172: EGPF TO EGPG and CYHZ TO CCF4. In the one in Canada I've got "Landed without a proper approach OR off runway surface." and a very poor score (see below).

I have also noticed that FSFS does not recognize the runway when passing 500ft AGL. Even though it knows where I’m landing, because Mr. Smith has read the plan, set OBS to proper heading and is complaining about the glide slope .

Entry from FSFS Logbook:

Failure(s): None at landing
Failure Event(s) (Zulu Time): None
Failure Bonus:0% Flight Duration:00 Hours 11 Mins 59 Secs

Landing Score:80.50

Landing was successful in the following areas:

  • Good alignment with runway on visual approach. [90%]
  • Gentle touchdown. [95 FPM]
  • Good landing speed - not too fast. [52 KIAS]
  • Wings were level.
  • Distance from runway threshold (visual approach): [968 feet]
  • Landed on runway surface.
  • Glideslope held until flare.
  • Good pitch control after touchdown.
  • Good pitch at landing.
  • With flaps - good job.
  • Heading aligned with runway.
  • Throttle(s) idle.
  • Good controlled final descent to touchdown.
  • Good steering after landing.

Landing included the following problems:

  • Poor glideslope on visual approach - you can do better. [40%]

Definite room for improvement...

Flight Score:100.71

Flight commended in the following areas:

  • Smooth turns.
  • Nice banking.
  • Correct matching of flaps to speeds.
  • Comfortable G forces.
  • Smooth pitch control.
  • Flown within aircraft's maximum speed limit.
  • Gentle taxi turns.
  • Good take off steering.
  • Rotation was not late.
  • Appropriate position of flaps during taxi.
  • Safe taxi speed.
  • Smooth braking during taxi.
  • Smooth climb during takeoff.
  • Wings level near ground.
  • Well coordinated turns.
  • No stalls.
  • No flying dangerously close to stall speed.
  • Smooth comfortable descent rate.
  • Pitch not too high.
  • Pitch not too low.
  • Flaps down on time.
  • Approach speed not too fast.
  • Low altitude speeds not too fast.
  • Good clearance of obstacles.

A smooth flight!

I'm using W7 64bit Polish and FSX Deluxe with FS Global 2008 and UTX Europe (some other local sceneries installed but should not affect those two flights).

Maybe this will be helpful to find a solution.

Hi -

Many thanks for the feedback.

You mentioned that you were not experiencing this problem and now you are.

Where were you flying before with no problems, and where are you now experiencing the problems?

Hi,

I was flying in Europe. Now I am flying in North America. But this problem does not appear at all airports.

I did some more tests and I have discovered two airports very close to each other (6.1 nm) with different behavior. It is KCGE on which FSFS does not recognize the runway and MD18 where it does. It looks like all airports east of KSGE has this problem, but I have checked close one and only few of them.

I have also noticed that FSFS does not recognize the runway also when taking off. When you switch from taxi to takeoff mode instructor should say on which runway we are standing before describing the weather. But he says nothing when on runway at KCGE and other airports where I got "Landed off the runway surface".

I really hope this will help you find the reason.

Best regards
