Hi -

Thanks for purchasing FSFS!

This problem has affected a very small number of users - we believe we have it solved here in the Sinister Lab  and are ready to publish a solution very shortly.

In the meantime - anyone having the problem can just award themselves an extra 50 points when the log book reports "off runway" if indeed you really were on it.

When the new update is published - you'll hear all about it here on the forum.

I still have it, maybe it's a different bug I'm getting. I'm using the Jan 21 version (demo), regenerated runway data and tried some other airports in the demo area as well.

For KETB the instructor kept saying "Let's get down to the glideslope" even as the lights both turned red at 200 feet...

For the example below NAV1 OBS via Ctrl+Sh+D showed the correct course (100) for the runway. I got a bit off the glideslope towards the end of the approach (but 40% still feels too low), otherwise I had the runway perfectly dead ahead (and not 0% - and "Heading aligned with runway" at the same time!).

"Landed without proper approach" - do I need to stick to a traffic pattern instead of just heading towards a runway when it is on my course anyway?

(Oh, and how to tell FSFS a Cub doesn't have flaps? Setting everything to 0 doesn't seem to work)

    Hi Folks:

With the new Jan 21 version the only way you can land on a runway and get the message "Without a proper approach or off runway surface" is if you were not:

Pointed at the start of the runway
    AND
    Aligned with the runway

    when you

    - descend through 500 feet AGL
    - in landing mode (you must be in FSFS landing mode)

If you do follow those requirements (above) you will hear the instructor say "We're landing at runway xxxx" when you drop below 500 AGL.

If you do not - you will hear the instructor say (basically) "I do not know which runway you are going to land at..."

and the instructor will not know the runway and so will treat your landing as if you had landed in a field.

You will lose points and the log will show
"Without a proper approach or off runway surface"

You should find that so long as you are lined up and pointing at the runway and in landing mode at 500 AGL - you will be fine.

"(Oh, and how to tell FSFS a Cub doesn't have flaps? Setting everything to 0 doesn't seem to work)"

What happens if you let FSFS autodetect the settings of the aircraft? (Make sure no FSU file is in the aircraft folder for that plane).

    Hi SL and PM14040,

I just made that flight several times, and I too am getting the same results.

    1.  At first I thought it was because 116.00 (TUS) was tuned in his radio....(Flight #1)

    2.  So 2nd flight I cleared out all radio frequencies, Landed on 24L, near as straight as I can get it, and I basically got the same result as PM14040.  (Flight #2)

One other thing trying to help out PM14040, I made just a basic flight taking off from KTUS but still heading towards KRYN, and I did hear Smitty say ""I do not know which runway you are going to land at..."  But gosh dang it, it was right in front of me.  It's almost like this runway is M.I.A. I can't land it any better....which isn't saying much!

Thanks Joe for confirming my problem at KTUS I first flew from Ryan and tried runway 29L and FSFS did not recognize the parallel runway so I tried again with 29R lined up at 2000 agl  straight in not bad landing same message about  Landed without a proper approach OR off runway surface?  I will keep trying and at new airports maybe it's me.

    Thanks Joe and SL
