Jim: Sorry about the problems - let's try this... Please send a screen shot of the entire screen when you have started with the PC off, loaded FS2004, got a plane onto the runway, then switched to FSFS and got to the point where it gets stuck. Please be sure that the screen shot is not compressed and that I can read the full text of any part of the screen. Please make sure that the details of the file you about to send is fully readable on the screen (sadly some users send us files where the details cannot be made out). Ideally this would be a GIF file (only 256 colors and therefore small file size) or a PNG or JPG file. If you don't know how to send a separate file just paste it into the body of an email. Email it to support@FSFlyingSchool.com

Hi jeff, and thanks for still taking my case....so here we go..I only have fsx, and never knew how good fs 2004 could be!!! I am still convinced that there must be a registry key somewhere it should not as I am guilty of removing fsx from my f drive where it was quite happy with fsfs classic..all worked just fine... I have a feeeling though this clean up may not be easy..did you get the desktop shot? that is all I see when I open fsfs... nothing happens... tell me more of aura,,
regards,
jim

Jim: Hi again. Got your screen shot. Thanks! Please answer these questions: 1. In the screen shot FSX is not running. What happens if you load FSX first, get a plane on a runway and then launch FSFS? 2. Are you logged in as a user with administrator level Windows access? If not please make sure you do so from here forward whenever using FSFS. 3. After launching FSFS, when nothing is happening, launch the Windows Task Manager (press Ctrl Alt Del) and tell me if FSFlyingSchool appears as an Application.

Hi jeff, just time before I go to work..
1. Nothing appears to happen after plane on runway then start fs
2. yes, logged in as admin..
3. yes, in windows task manager it appears as running but only after finding target in folder properties..and not for long as it has stopped now..
4. So it will not run on a double icon click, but is running in task manager?
??????
regards
jim

Hi jeff, ole, and captain Garrick, thank you for sticking with it...
I thought I had better go right back to the start of the problems...I had the classsic version of fsfs installed on the master drive F: along with with fsx and all was working fine but space was getting low. Fsfs was working just fine at my home base of Blackpool (except for flying right hand circuits from 28) and mr smith would regularly give me stick...
I got hold of horizon's VFR photo scenery and thought hang on, I will reformat the slave drive C: and dedicate it to all things flying ..then deleted fsx without uninstalling it
All went well until I tried to start fsfs with the new arrangement.. It could not find FSX.. this is when I tried to modify the .ini file to FSX=c:
I have deleted my classic version as I would like to upgrade to 2009, and have downloaded the 2009 demo several times, but when I double click the icon, it starts in windows task manager for a few seconds, then stops...if however I right click on the icon and go into find target in properties, it will show as running in windows task manager...but nothing happens....?
I suspect the registry holds the key, but what do I look for and how?
happy landings
jim

Jim: I cannot say what in the registry needs to be looked at or changed (I don't know) and even so we will not do that - this runs the danger of causing serious problems on your PC. A key point which has been established here is that you are getting the same response whether FSX is running or not. There would most likely still have been issues runnning FSFS if FSX has been deleted and then installed elsewhere, but we will get to that another day... When FSFS is launched by itself, without FSX running (or FS2004 for that matter) the program should be able to run and as you would imagine it will report "No flight simulator found". The problem of course is that your are not even getting that far. As I understand your PC, the only core difference in what used to work and what now does not is that: 1. You are trying to start FSFS2009 demo (unregistered) instead of FSFS Classic-Registered. 2. It is installed on a different drive. I don't think we have any data (historical cases) on any instances of FSFS or FSFS2009 doing what it does on your PC when launched. I certainly cannot recall any. Apologies if this has been asked before, but what happens if 1. you install and run FSFS Classic-Registered on your old drive that it originally ran on without FSX running? 2. you install and run FSFS2009 demo on your old drive without FSX running? Please let me know what you find.

Hi Jeff,
well I have tried all the combinations I can think of.. fs wont open on either the old drive or the new drive, both classic registered and 2009, even with fsx not running... nothing seems to work and there is still no sign of an .ini file since I tried to edit it....that is when the problems started...
I have got both old and new on seperate drives, neither wants to play...
regards, jim
