Hi Jim, I hope that the FSFS has loaded after following Ole's and Jeff's suggestions? Also don't forget to double check to be sure that you have also installed the FSX 'SDK' pack from DVD disc 3 and Disc 1 from FSX. Make sure that it is installed as FSFS uses it to help the program run. Best of luck with this Jim. We as a team are here to help each other. Happy flying! Garrick.

Yes, it is fsfs that wont open...I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times but all to no avail, it still refuses to open.. now the ini file has disappeared and I am running out of ideas...It has worked fine before as a registered copy of classic fsfs and all I wanted to do was upgrade to 2009.. now it wont open at all....I suspect there must be something hidden in the registry that is causing the problem, how do I check?
regards, jim

Squadron leader, captain Garrick, thankyou for help so far, and in answer to your questions, I think you may have put your finger on a problem in that the uninstall of fsx may not have been complete as It seems to have remembered a lot about me..pilot records etc I was surprised to find them intact...
regards jim

Under Start Menu, in the Run Command application Type the following with this: %appdata% Copy and paste this if you want. Next Locate Microsoft Folder, open it. Find FSX folder. Check to see what backup data has been left behind. Should it still be there after a clean uninstall by using the DVD's From FSX Gold. Don't use the Add/Remove Application in Windows OS. Reinstall FSX in a Raw state, Then once you have done so, Run the program as you normally would. After a simple flight if you wish. Uninstall it once again. After that recheck the same thing under the Run Command %appdata% Microsoft, FSX. The FSX should be gone. Make sure that you Delete under the Microsoft Games folder the "FSX game Folder. e.g., C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Delete it all. Check C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX. Make sure you delete that too should it still be there after you uninstalled FSX from your DVD's. Don't Save your saved files folder(s). I am Microsoft Certified; A++, C++, etc.; however, Do the same for FSFS. You will find that Folder under Programs as a standalone application. If you purchased the FSFS 2009 version upgrade key code try redownloading the application and save it first. This way you can check to see if all folders are history! After all this headache you are going through, I am sure this should help you solve the issue. It is wise to do a complete Windows cleanup after you uninstall the program(s). Run a Disk Check under The Drive C:\ H.D.D. Just highlite drive C:\ and right click on it. after that select tools tab and put a checkmark in both boxes. It will prompt you to run this scan after a restart. Stages 1 trough 5. Once you are finished the scan, reinstall FSX Gold first including the Update and then install the FSX Gold Acceleration Expansion pack. Run it. After all of that, reinstall FSFS. I hope this helps? Should you have any further issues Ole, Jeff, and I will brain storm together to help you get everything up and running. Please copy and paste this information and put it into notepad or Microsoft Word, then Print it. Good luck Jim. Best Regards, Garrick.

Thanks Garrick - I'll take it from here. I would like to field all calls as it were on this subject from this point. This should not be difficult to solve - we have seen this sort of thing many times before where the user has changed the location of an installation of Flight Simulator and the Windows Registry has not been fully updated which throws off other software, such as FSFlyingSchool. The most commons reason is that the original install of FS was not uninstalled - the user simply moved it my copying. I would like at this point for the parking brake to be set on this support issue (thread) and I'll wait to hear from Jim with news of his current situation. Jim - please provide as much information as you can, so we save time and get you up and flying ASAP. Please read through the posts and answer any questions asked and throw in whatever else you think may be useful. And to all - have a great weekend!

Jim: Hi again. I am pretty sure Ole has the very same equipment and I am sure he'll let you know what he can about this. Are they physically stuck, or is it a case of the program (FSX) behaving as though they are?
