Joe:

Can you please email us a zip of all the files in your PilotRoster folder?

We want to examine that last landing in detail... for genuinely sinister purposes of course...

BGGH to BGVW (August 31)   Godthab (Nuuk) Greenland to Narsarsuaq, Greenland.

Decided that I'm not doing very good with the CRJ-700 and non-ILS landings, so I decided to fire up ol reliable Beech Baron, and fly 250 miles in shitty crappy weather, and see if I could post a non-ILS score.  What do you all think?  Possible....let me help you out there....oh hell no!  #$!%!$!%@!%  I'm pissed.

Raining like hell again.  Departing Nuuk, and off to my next destination.

Can't really tell but the rain is horizontal.  Cool   Soaring above the clouds and rain.

More snow and hills.  Airport ahead, came in over hills again, flying through a valley...everything is looking good!

Final approach...everything looks good. Turning around on runway to head back to ramp.

A splendid landing!  (Got a splending landing and nothing to show for it....I give up!)

Flight included the following problems:

  • Rapid descent - dangerous and uncomfortable.

Flying Notes:  Landing Score: 0 (#!$%!$)  Flying Score: 110.86

BGVW to BIRK (August 31)   Narsarsuaq, Greenland to Raykjavik, Iceland

Off to the wonderful island of Iceland.  Long flight over the waters.  Did the whole flight without A/P, and must say my spirits was a little down, but I wouldn't have it any other way than Mr. Smith by my side.  Cruised at 38,000 feet, hope I don't go down in the cold waters is all I could think about.   Also, decided to give the Virtual Cockpit a try again.  I have a bitch of a time looking out the windshield, partly because it's probably me, but I think I can see the runway much better with Virtual than I can with Cockpit view and switch out to see if I'm lining up right.  Anyway, spirits are brighter tonight as I finally got back on the scoreboard with landings...in fact...not to shabby if I do say so myself.

Parked in Narsarsuaq.  Departing Greenland for Iceland.

Banking around some hills.  Thought this was an interesting picture....An upper and lower lake.

Just on the edge of Greenland.  Thought this was a cool picture also...funneling through some clouds.

Once again...some high country and water.  Lining up nicely at Raykjavik, Intl.

Two white - Two Red....looking good.  Smoke and flaps....ahh yea...litle off but good landing.  Drum Roll please.....

Flying Notes:  Landing Score: 114.60   Flying Score: 137.14

Landing included the following problems:

  • Poor glideslope on ILS approach - you can do better.

Flight included the following problems:

  • Steep banking - save your aerobatic flying for some other time.
  • Exceeding flap speeds - your flaps may be damaged: have them checked.
  • Nose held too low - we're not in combat.

On the flight....I was battling some huge tail winds at 45knots plus...leading to me not watching at times, thus the problems.  Flaps was my fault...lost track of things taking pictures...

Should have it soon!  I think I did it right.  Haven't made a zip file in awhile.

BIRK to BIKF (September 1)   Raykjavik, Iceland to Keflavik, Iceland

Liked landing so much in Raykjavik, that I decided to take another shot hop over to Keflavik, a southern city on the southwestern part of Iceland.  Starting to really like VC cockpit.  Not sure why I waited this long.

Fall Colors are alive and well in Iceland.

3 White - 1 Red...Just a bit high, but looking good.  An Iceland Air jet in background.

Flying Notes:  Landing Score: 106.84  Flying Score:  106.69

Landing included the following problems:

  • Poor steering after landing - stay on the centre line.

Flight included the following problems:

  • Rough pitch control - that flight felt like a rollercoaster.

BIKF to EKVG (September 1)   Keflavik, Iceland to Vagar, Faroe Islands

What a nice flight to a really cool place on the Atlantic Ocean.  The Faroe Islands located just above the United Kingdom.  The airport is located in between bluffs and mountains surrounded by really cool scenery.  The flight was marred by a FSX clitch.  The runway is not lined up with the real ILS system, so my score got a zero even though I "nutted" the landing right on the money!

Loading up for trek across the pond, and nice shot from Mrs. Robinson's seat.
Leaving the coast of Iceland....just a neat shot of the sun shining down.

Closing in on Faroe Islands.  Cool looking landscapes...Bluffs and water.

Flying through the bluffs.

Flying Notes:  Landing score: 0  Flying Score: 91.34

Landing included the following problems:  (Flight under protest)

  • No glideslope information was available on visual approach.
  • No runway alignment information was available on visual approach.
  • Too hard - may have damaged your landing gear.
  • Wings not level - danger of clipping the ground or damaging your gear.
  • No glideslope - could not compare flare to glideslope.
  • Nowhere near the centre line - get lined up and keep it that way.
  • Poor steering after landing - stay on the centre line.

Yep - it is entirely possible for the runway and the ILS to disagree and you may find that if you follow the ILS you will land on a lovely strip of grass next to the runway.

I read somewhere that there actually is a runway, a sloped runway directly on the shore, where, if you follow the ILS, then you will end in the water before the runway. FSX (and FS9) have quite a few of those errors, but with 26000+ airports around the globe, mistakes are bound to happen.

My only experience of a problem was with FS2004 with add-on scenery which moved the runway to the "real" location, but did not move the ILS.
