I like flying the A2A Cessna 172R, but I have had problems using it with FSFLYINGSCHOOL vs 4.6. The instructor insists that I turn on the alternator, but it's on. The software doesn't recognize the plane for the detail pack which I also enjoy using for other C172 planes. The instructor demanded that I retract the gear. I gave up after that. Did anyone add the data for the A2A Cessna to the site? If so, I can't find it. Thanks!

Hi:

Sounds like a real puzzle. Publishers of planes use many different techniques to implement their simulation in FSX and sometimes this leads to FSX reporting things to FSFS that are not quite right. Based on what you have reported, FSX is telling FSFS that the plane has retractable gear and an alternator that is off.

As you can imagine, this is why we offer free demos of all our products so interested folks can make sure they are perfectly satisfied with the products before spending any money.

>> "The software doesn't recognize the plane for the detail pack "

I am a little puzzled about the alternator because if the instructor is talking about that, he/she certainly knows it is a c172 and is applying the detail treatment - this is not mentioned with other, non-detail planes.

I love the A2A C172R, it's the most realistic simulation of a Cessna ever made and I'd love to use it with FS flying school. I hope there will be enough interest for a Detail Pack, that would be awsome!

Hi:

We'd certainly like to look into this case and see what we can do to help pilots who want to fly their excellent A2A c172 with FSFlyingSchool PRO 2013 for FSX (and P3D).

We've contacted A2A and are now working on this with their generous help.

So far we have found issues with a few different systems, some of which can be worked around and some are more difficult. We are looking at the practicality of coding a fix especially for this excellent airplane.

Right now the only way to work around the "alternator on please" announcement is to rename the voice file "Enginegeneratorswitch.wav" in the c172 folder of the chosen instructor. Any file which is renamed to something meaningless will never be played. The problem is that you will never hear it again - for any c172...

You can get rid of the issue where FSX reports the plane has retractable gear by creating an FSU file for the plane at the aircraft screen - full instructions in the manual.

But what the heck - I'll describe it here too...

Just get into the plane, then connect with FSFS, make sure FSX is NOT PAUSED and then wait for 10 seconds for FSFS to realize which plane it is. Then disconnect in FSFS and go to the FSFS aircraft screen. Click on "user specified data" and make sure the retractable gear box is cleared. Then click the save user data button. Thereafter, FSFS will use this data for that plane - it will know that it does NOT have retractable gear.

The method I just described is the easy way to do it - the following is the hard way - so please use the above method.

But... for reference... the file I created was...

(must be exactly this): "A2A_C172.fsu"

The file must be placed into the aircraft folder of FSFS then the user has to get into the plane, connect with FSFS, make sure FSX is NOT PAUSED and then wait for 10 seconds for FSFS to realize which plane it is. Then disconnect in FSFS and go to the aircraft screen. Click on "user specified data". Then click the save user data button. Thereafter, FSFS will use this data for that plane - it will know that it does NOT have retractable gear.

The file (which also has adjustments for the speeds) looks like this...

[flaps.0]
flaps-position.1=12.7
flaps-position.2=25.3
flaps-position.3=38
flaps-position.4=0
flaps-position.5=0
flaps-position.6=0
flaps-position.7=0
flaps-position.8=0
flaps-position.9=0

[reference speeds]
IASTooFastForFlaps0=110
IASTooFastForFlaps1=85
IASTooFastForFlaps2=85
IASTooFastForFlaps3=0
IASTooFastForFlaps4=0
IASTooFastForFlaps5=0
IASTooFastForFlaps6=0
IASTooFastForFlaps7=0
IASTooFastForFlaps8=0
IASStallCruise=51
IASStallLanding=47
MaxGearExtension=0

[misc settings]
RetractableGear=0
Spoilers=0
FloatPlane=0
FlapsDownDuringTaxi=0

You can get the file from here.

I will post updates on progress here!

Hi Guys

Two great products that should have total compatibility. It will be difficult going back to the default Cessna after flying the A2A 172. On the other hand, it would far less interesting/challenging flying any Cessna without Mr Smith by my side. I would be happy to pay for a detail pack if one were to be made available. I have tried the above workaround, indeed, it does fix the alternator and gear requests. However, Mr Smith does not seem to recognize the aircraft as a c172 and continues to recommend spoiler & question flap settings (despite changes in the aircraft tab). Have only tested for a few minutes and these were my initial observations. Thanks for looking into this.

Cheers

Rotor

Hi Rotor:

Good news - we are looking into this and... making progress! We hope to publish something very soon that will address the issues. It is a splendid plane and we'd like to fully support it.

That is very good news as I have just today began using Saitek's Cessna pro flight yoke and rudder pedals with the A2A Cessna 172 trainer. I have found out so far that my turns are much better and I'm hoping to hear from Mr Smith soon. Bringing together two great products will benefit many more in the FSX community. I was surprised when I read the A2A forum that they didn't know about FSFlyingSchool. I tried to edit the "alternator on please" command, but I couldn't find in in the sound files. I will wait for your efforts.

Hi FSXCOP:

>> "I was surprised when I read the A2A forum that they didn't know about FSFlyingSchool."

Thanks for your support! It would indeed by very nice if more folks knew about us. Please - tell your friends!

When one considers that we've won 4 PC Pilot Magazine Classic Product Awards in consequence of having been reviewed four times in that publication and have been recommended by and reviewed by FSPilotShop, PC Aviator, AVSIM and used by Elite Flight Controls, Jetmax etc and we're on sale in at least 10 major flight simulation shops worldwide...

But... there are an awful lot of FS add-ons out there and I for one would be the first to confess that I cannot even begin to keep track of them all.

As to the sound file, let's try this...

"Right now the only way to work around the "alternator on please" announcement is to rename the voice file "Enginegeneratorswitch.wav" in the c172 folder of the chosen instructor. Any file which is renamed to something meaningless will never be played. The problem is that you will never hear it again - for any c172... "

So... the file in question, for Mr Smith, is... (in a standard installation - but if you changed the location when you installed it could be different on your PC)

C:\Program Files (x86)\FSFlyingSchool\Sound\MrSmith\c172\Enginegeneratorswitch.wav

You could for example rename it to:
"Disabled_Enginegeneratorswitch.wav"

Once this is done you will, for certain, never hear it again.

Please let me know how you get on!
