Dear Ole and dear Squadronleader,

many thanks for your quick reply!
Thaaat was....ok this is what make your program bigger than others, it looks even at that so small things to correct and guide us toward perfection, GREAT!

Sorry having you bother for that, but I hated to see my performance graph to fall down so quick!

I hope that our doubts and your replys will help us to do better and better.

Thank you to the next
Cheers

Roberto

OH and btw. Did you enter the runway heading in your Nav1OBS dial? if not - FSFS thinks your runwayheading is 340 and if it is not, youre screwed - pointwise. If you have an ILS approach you must also enter the ILS frequency in your Nav1 box.

[/quote]

Ok I have had all the same problems you've addressed here and been able to solve all but one issue -- I am flying the FSX Piper J3 aircraft -- there is no Nav1OBS dial to set my runway heading with. So I always end up with a landing score of ZERO. I know my landings are improving but how do I get a score without resorting to flying a more modern aircraft?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Are you performing an ILS approach? I doubt it if the aircraft has no NAV1 OBS, but need to know.

For the moment all my flight work is VFR circuits. And yes its true the Piper J3 as supplied by MS FSX has NO ILS (NAV1 or NAV2) equipment -- I can not display or set the NAV1 OBS -- the command: "Shift V" used to Display the OBS Indicator has NO response when the Piper J3 is in use. I supposed that this is so because the real J3 don't got no Navaids - I can use a GPS that I guess is a hand held device and similar COM1, but that's about all there is. The NAV and Com work fine if I am flying the Cessna 172, and I can set Nav1 OBS to the proper runway heading. I have only been flying simulators for about two months now and started out pig ignorant about them. (Still am) I was a real student pilot in 1965 and got soled in a 1943 Taylor Craft and a Piper Tripacer -- got 25 hours in and ran out of funds, Never got my license and never sat in the Cockpit since. I am lucky to even find the runway in order to land -- ILS is not even on the Radar for me until I can at least handle the aircraft in FSX and land VFR fairly decently. The J3 is far easier for me at the moment. I have been using the book "Microft Flight Simulator Flight Simulator X for Pilots: Real-World Training" as a guide. FSFlying School seems to be the perfect companion for me here and I like the way it works - so If I can play this out I believe I can reach my goal of being a FSX Pilot with some competence in the long run. I am sort of wanting to mimic the path of Student Pilot to Sport Pilot to Private Pilot to Commercial Pilot, etc over time.

'G S P':

We are working our way through this issue right now, but in the meantime I think I have a slightly goofy, not very convenient trick that might, erm, do the trick if you feel adventurous and would like to try it...

If start FSX and get a plane onto the ground which has a NAV1 OBS, e.g. the Cessna 172, and then set that NAV1 OBS to the runway heading for your planned flight, and then switch to the Piper... and then finally load up FSFS, I believe we may find that FSFS is taking the NAV1 OBS reading from the last loaded aircraft that had one.

You can immediately check this without having to fly around at all, by simply pressing Ctrl Shift D ('D' for 'D'ata) so that FSFS will display what it believes to be your current NAV1 OBS setting.

If this works, then at least there is a (not very convenient) trick to force it to at least be possible.

Please let us know what you find.

I can confirm that it does indeed work. Maybe not the most sofisticated way of setting your NAV1 OBS indicator - and then again, maybe it IS the most sofisticated way to do it

Anyway - it works, so if you wanna do circuits in the Cup, then thats a way to go.

Thank you for that little trick SL:

Ole:

Thanks for confirming this. Again - just to keep us all in the picture - we are looking into this whole subject right now and working on a slick solution  , but in the meantime - this little trick does the trick.

Thanks Squadron Leader! Your suggestion works. I've only made one flight in the J3 using your procedure -- I got a verbal score but nothing showed up in the FSFS Logbook except that there was an "Auto-disconnect because the Pilot changed airplanes" But I may have caused that because I "Escape Keyed" from the flight and Ended it before checking FSFS Logbook -- it may have recorded the information if I had just ALT-Tabbed over to FSFS. I'll test it again later -- right now I am being hailed for dinner - otherwise I'd go for the $100.00 Hamburger at another airfield just to see if I can do it.

Thanks again for your help.

Glad the trick worked!

It sounds like you may have changed the option that determines when a flight ends AND you changed planes before the flight "ended"...?

Does this ring any bells?

The manual tells us...

In addition, you may choose to end the flight, after landing, when the aircraft is:

- Stopped or Taxiing
- Stopped and the parking brake is set
- Stopped and the parking brake is set and the engine(s) are off

FSFS-Tip In some aircraft, cutting off the fuel is difficult to achieve using the mouse with the on-screen aircraft controls, such as fuel mixture or jet fuel cut off, and so you may need to use Flight Simulator’s standard Ctrl+Shift+F1 to cut off the engine(s).
