FMNM to FMCH (November 15th, 2008) Mahajanga, Madagascar to Prince Said Ibrahim, Comoros Island

Decided not to fly completely to Tanzania, so I made a stop on the Comoros Island.  All kinds of Islands out in the middle of nowhere.

What's with these airports with no taxiways other than the runway?  Turn-around baby... How about that picture...a lake swimming pool?  Later Madagascar!

All kinds of Islands in the middle of bright blue water.

Gotta bend this plane around this small island.  Line her up nicely.

Looking good on this one....Airport right next to the ocean....nice!

Landing Score:122.65
Landing included the following problems:

  • Too hard - may have damaged your landing gear.

Flight Score:136.90
Flight included the following problems:

  • Nose held too low - we're not in combat.
  • Poorly trimmed aircraft - trimmers are there to help: use them.

FMCH to HTDA (November 16th, 2008) Prince Said Ibrahim, Comoros Island to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

What a nice little island, but time is money, and we are off to the mainland again of Eastern Africa.  Next stop is the Coastal city of Dar Es Salaam Tanzania.

Another one of these damn turnararound runways...booger with a 737.  Good looking takeoff and blue sky picture.

Early morning and sun is coming up. Nothing but water for 375 nm.  Closing in on the African coast of Tanzania.

Getting all ready for final approach.  Looking good...not bad, just slightly off center, but pretty good.

Landing Score:128.69

Flight Score:146.37

A smooth flight!

HTDA to HKJK (November 16th, 2008) Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania to Nairobi, Kenya

This flight was a record flight for me.  As of today's posting, I made the 11th top score for a landing overall.  Yea baby.  Enjoy the pictures.

Small little gnat next to me as I back up.  Take off towards the main city.

More shots of the city on departure, and passing next to Mount Kilaminjaro.

Could this be finally a great landing...you bet!  Lots of Kenyan Airlines and no where to park?

Landing Score:152.65  (11th highest landing on the website!)

Landing included the following problems:

  • Too hard - may have damaged your landing gear.

Flight Score:146.22

A smooth flight!

Pretty busy airport in Nairobi.  Kenya airlines and East African Express airlines.

Taxiing and flying over Lake Victoria.

Flying north, then back south for a peninsula landing at Entebbe.

Cool looking airport.  Well, not so good on center, but that's what you get sometimes with me...

  • Rapid descent - dangerous and uncomfortable.

Testing...testing....

HUEN to HAAB (November 16th, 2008) Entebbe, Uganda to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Ok....here' my excuse.  I been having a little trouble with my computer system from time to time.  I was making some practice flights trying to figure out what the heck was going on, wrong, etc.  I evidently was messing with a smaller aircraft, and barely had any fuel in the smaller plane.  Decided to go back to the 737 and take off without checking the fuel tanks.  Well you guessed it....shortly after takeoff, and about 50 miles from Entebbe, I ran out of fuel, and tried to make it back.  Came up several miles short and crashed majestically into the side of a hillside. Obviously, I have to work on my emergency trim procedures.

HAAB to HSSS (November 16th, 2008) Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Khartoum, Sudan

Gotta make up for a lot of mishaps lately, so let bear down and get a good score.  Well, that lasted a short time.  Autopilot got engaged yet again, so there goes a descent score again....enjoy the pictures.

Ethiopian small commuter next to me...dang it...he got out ahead of me.

Following up the longest river in the world - The Nile.

Coming in along the city...

Landing Score:83.85
Autopilot used.

A splendid landing!

Flight Score:97.45

A smooth flight!

HSSS to HECA (November 22nd, 2008) Khartoum, Sudan  to Cairo, Egypt

This is where I started having issues with my computer big time.  My computer started freezing up irractically, and got pretty bad to the point I was about to give up on it.  So the next few flights, I could figure it out until a few posting from now.  So I have no pictures of this flight and did not record any scoring because I tried 3 times to make this flight and gave up.

HECA to OLBA (November 22nd, 2008) Cairo, Egypt to Beruit, Lebanon.

I tried this flight 2 times and gave up.  I did get some pictures before my computer bombed out.  Finally figured out what I think was the problem was.  I was running a defrag program that ran 24/7.  I disabled it, and it seemed that everything started magically working again.  So anyway I've got no numbers to post but I did manage to get some pictures of Cairo, before my computer froze up...Enjoy.

Downtown Cairo, and heading west to one of the Seven Wonders of the Word.  The great pyramids.

Some more shots ofthe pyramids, and then about 1/2 after this picture computer bombed out....but from now on, I think I finally got it licked...Well we'll see?

OLBA to OSDI (November 23rd, 2008) Beruit, Lebanon to Damascas, Syria

Short 56nm flight to Damascas.  Little nervous about being shot down, but I beefed up the Baron with countermeasures so hopefully we won't have to use any of them.

Couple new airline liveries - Royal Jordanian and MEA - Middle Eastern Airlines national carrier of Lebanon.

Flying over the city of Lebanon, Mediterreanan sea in backdrop, and heading east to Damascas.

Making left turn to final, almost centerlined it.

Landing Score:76.75

Landing included the following problems:

  • Too hard - may have damaged your landing gear.
  • Throttle(s) forward - should be idle.
  • Poor steering after landing - stay on the centre line.

Flight Score:112.32

A smooth flight!

OSDI to LLBG (November 23rd, 2008) Damascas, Syria to Tel-Aviv, Isreal

Another fairly short flight of 116 nm.  I actually had a chance for a business trip to Tel-Aviv, Isreal.  It was about a year after the 1st Gulf war in the 90's, so it was a little stressful, but got an opportunity to see quite a bit of of the landcape.

Loading up the CRJ-700 jet.  Leaving Demascas.  Flying next to the Sea of Gallallie.

Flying over the Dead Sea to the north.  Coming in from the West over the Med. Sea.  Lining up nicely for landing.

Little high but bringing it down to screech the tires.

Landing Score:101.04

Landing included the following problems:

  • Poor glideslope on ILS approach - you can do better.
  • Too fast - you had to force the plane to stay down.

Flight Score:120.38

Flight included the following problems:

  • Late rotation - when Vr is reached - take off.
  • Airspeed too low - you are risking stalls.
  • Rapid descent - dangerous and uncomfortable.
  • Nose held too low - we're not in combat.

LLBG to LLJR (November 23rd, 2008) Tel-Aviv, Isreal to Jerusalem, Isreal

Like I stated earlier, I figured if I got a once in a lifetime trip to a country, I thought I'd take a trip up to Jerusalem to see what it's all about.  Actually visited the old temple city, witnessed a battling masses of different faiths in the old temple.  Actually, I'm not the most religious of people, but that was quite fascinating to say the least.

Short 19nm flight that seem to take forever with ATC...

Dead sea again in the background.

Pretty elevated airport, hadn't flown the Mooney in awhile, so landing was fairly crappy.  Deserve what ol' Smitty gave me for a score.

Landing Score:52.70

Landing included the following problems:

  • Poor glideslope on ILS approach - you can do better.
  • Throttle(s) forward - should be idle.
  • Poor steering after landing - stay on the centre line.

Flight Score:90.04

Flight included the following problems:

  • Exceeding flap speeds - your flaps may be damaged: have them checked.
  • Wings not level near ground - danger of clipping a wing.
