No problem, I'll do some testing over the weekend, but from what I remember it occurred on the C152 and the C172 (both from Carenado).... but to be thorough, I'll also remove my yoke, pedals etc and connect without them, to make sure there's no issue there either.

The reason I raised it as an issue was because the problem only existed with the "On Approach" feature. If I simply taxied to the run up bay, and connected FSFS for general analysis of flying, it worked fine and recognised the mapping of the flaps to the throttle quadrant.

Hi:

Hmmm... quite a puzzle...

Please let us know how your testing goes!

To confirm, Yes; I had the same problem using other planes such as the 172, however as soon as I switched out of 'Approach Mode', flap usage was detected correctly.

The next step I took was to remove my controllers and attempt the same from an old saitek x52 joystick and the problem still occurred, so instead I removed my flight yoke, throttle quadrant etc, and removed all assignments then re-assigned again, only this time I relocated the pitch trim to the 3rd set of buttons on the quadrant (they were previously on the yoke). I know I shouldn't have updated the software while trying to resolve this but Jeff sent me a key for the C152 detail pack and it was too tempting not to, so this was also installed, and bizarre thing.... flaps are now being detected in approach mode.

So maybe a controller assignment then...... well I don't think so because :-

a) Flaps worked when not in approach mode on all planes

b) I logged FSUIPC to ensure the flap button event was being identified, although not handled by FSPRO to make sure there was no problem with reading the events from FSX

c) I also assign minimal buttons to my controller, after all I'm flying a little cessna, not the bloody space shuttle

For now it appears to be working again, but to be honest I've not had time to test any further due to suffering a bout of "Man Flu", over the last week. When I get the chance, I'll test further, and let you know if I have any more issues.

I get this flaps issue too in FSFS Pro.
Regular Flight plan and when in landing mode, instructor says illegal use of flaps etc...
There seems a confusion with the mode and the vertical speed altitude. If I descend and then level out, instructor says to retract flaps unless landing. Auto mode is disabled too!??
I'm still trying to play around with it...

Hi -

As there is no "descent" mode in FSFS, landing mode has to cover descent and landing.

You will have the best control over what happens if you have automatic FSFS flight mode detection turned off.

FSFS expects you to enter "landing mode" when you have finished cruising.

Once you are both in landing mode and slow enough to deploy flaps, Mr Smith and crew will expect you to. It is very important to know your flap speeds or your instructor will strike off points.

Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Guys,

I also have this issue.

Except slightly differently for me my plane has NO flaps (A2A Piper Cub) and I setup "user specified data".
Unticked Spoilers, set all flap positions to 0 1 through 9, in fact everything unticked on that aircraft tab.

Saved Data.

Then flight plan approach 3 miles out from YWOL and reconnect. Perfect landing and glideslope etc, but then instructor berates me for not usign flaps

I don't like getting in trouble from my teacher...

Also just to see if it helped, I convert my FSU file into FSR file.

With A2A piper cub as an FSR file, it still tells me about Flaps.

Hi -

I see what you mean about the flaps - if I recall this is related to the aircraft.cfg file for that aircraft containing a reference to flaps - but I admit that I am not certain.

Can you have a look at the aircraft.cfg file for that aircraft (in its folder in FSX) which is most likely within...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes

and let me know if it contains a section that looks anything at all like this...?

[flaps.0] //Trailing Edge Flaps
type = 1 // 1 - tail, 2 - lead
span-outboard = 0.5 // 0.0 .. 1.0
extending-time = 7 // seconds
flaps-position.0 = 0 // degrees
flaps-position.1 = 12.7 // degrees
flaps-position.2 = 25.3 // degrees
flaps-position.3 = 38 // degrees
damaging-speed = 120 // KIAS
blowout-speed = 150 // KIAS
lift_scalar = 1.0
drag_scalar = 1.0
pitch_scalar= 1.0
system_type = 0 //0=Electric, 1=Hydraulic, 2=Pneumatic, 3=Manual, 4=None

[Reference Speeds]
flaps_up_stall_speed = 53.0 //Knots True (KTAS)
full_flaps_stall_speed = 48.0 //Knots True (KTAS)
cruise_speed = 115.0 //Knots True (KTAS)
max_indicated_speed = 163 //Red line (KIAS)

Hi

Although this is not my most pressing issue with FSFS Pro, I have noticed this flap problem with the 'On Approach' feature, also in the flight analysis and score for landing and flight, even though there is no flight score, there is a comment at the end of the flight analysis with every 'on approach' flight:

Flight included the following problems:
Flaps down while taxiing - get them up.

Strange, maybe FSFS Pro itself is ok but the new on approach feature may contain some bugs....I now need to look at my other issue with FSFS Pro on a normal take off and landing flight.
