What's your default sound device in Windows?
You can find out by opening Control Panel and then Sound. What devices are listed and which is the default?
You could try changing your default sound card in Windows and then pressing the "Listen to Instructor" button in FSFlyingSchool.
Which folder did you install FSFlyingSchool to? The default of c:\program files\FSFlyingSchool ?
Most users don't need to select a sound card in FSFlyingSchool, and instead let the program use the Windows default. To reset FSFlyingSchool to use the default Windows sound card you'll simply need to select "Default Sound Card" in the "Settings" view.
Hope this helps,
John.

It's also worth checking that the instructor sound files are installed correctly. You should have 5 instructors listed in the "Instructors" drop down list in the "Sound Setup" section of the "Pilots" tab/view.

Hi John,
First of all thanks for your help with this matter.
To come back on your question about the sound card settings: I've tried the three settings - select sound card setting - save sound card setting - go to "listen to the instructor" and nothing happens. To be honnest, I already tried this a couple of times.
Also the 'fiddling' with the sound card settings under/with the control panel didn't bring anything else but problems with the rest of my programs and fsfs.
But maybe you brought up the root of the problems: I did install FSX and fsfs on the d-drive instead of the C-drive. This MIGHT indeed be the root of my problems.
Can I ether tell fsfs that's it (and fsx) on the d-drive(via ini-files or others)?
OR
Do I have to put them both on the C-drive
OR
Do I only have to re-install fsfs on the c-drive (delete from d and install on C)?
OR
Do you have other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for looking in to this.
Kris

Don't worry about the drive it's installed on instead...
Check that the instructor sound files are installed correctly. You should have 5 instructors listed in the "Instructors" drop down list in the "Sound Setup" section of the "Pilots" tab/view.

This really is a puzzle. This is always worth a try... Can you confirm that FSX and FSFS were installed using the same user name and that user has an administrator security level and that user is the user who is running FSX and running FSFS ?

Hi squadronleader, due to a busy schedule I was not able to have a look a FSX and FSFS the last few days/weeks. (and a bit due to the fact that I was fed up with it, but shouldn't say that) I'm the sole user of the computer thus have all the rights and administrator level(s) required to do whatever has to be done. FSFS and FSX are both under my username and not the one under administrator and the other one under my user name. According to me, it has something to do with the sound settings. When I do a flight and FSFS is connected, the FSFS toolbar shows at the top of FSX indicating "take-off" "cruising" or "are you cruising" and in the end I'm receiving points and suggestions of FSFS so this means to me that the program is doing it's work (although I'm not receiving as much points as I would have liked ) Can I see somewhere if the program is conflicting with other sound-settings? Thanks again, Freelinck

Hi FL: Here's another thought - can you try playing the WAV files in the sound folder of FSFS without FSFS running but with FSX running with an aircraft actually flying? Which application is launched when you double left click on a WAV file in that folder? If you double left click on the volume control in your system tray (bottom right of Windows), you will (I think this is generally true) see a group of volume sliders for all your audio inputs and outputs, such as "Wave", "CD Player" and "Line In". Do you see any with settings other than maximum? Do you a see a slider for "Wave"? And erm... please check that disable sound is not checked at the pilots screen of FSFS and that instructor volume is set to normal in the aircraft page.

After some weeks/months of forgetting about FSFS9, I tried it again last week. Much to my surprise, when I pushed the "Listen to instructor"-button, Mr. Smith told me that I was flying too fast. This was after I shut down all processes which were not usefull for running FSX. I was nearly running a "naked system" that moment. Today, however, I just started up the computer and ran FSFS. Still it works, so I'm not able to tell you what's changed in the course of the previous weeks, so not very usefull on a forum like this. I would like to thank you for the effort you've done to try and solve this problem together with me. Especially Squadronleader, I must say. One more question, but not regarding the previous stuff: When I bought FSFS9, I also bought the Cessna detail pack. On the FSFS website I saw that I'm able to upgrade the 2009 software with the one from 2010. Which license key do I have to enter? Is that the one which is shown under the "credit"tab and then "reg. key."? Or is this another license key? Thanks again for your patience the last few weeks! A happy guy from Belgium.
