I have recently updated from FSFS 2009 to the latest version FSFS 2010 plus the Cessna 172 pack.
I am having a problem with-in the Aircraft page, when I select, FSFlyingSchool Data, a small window appears and says "Can't find the FSR file."
As all the other things I have been using seem great, I would be grateful for some help/advice regarding this.
My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Kind regards,
itv5.

Hi itv5
The .fsr files are aircraftfiles that is provided by the FSFS team. You cannot choose .fsr files in the aircraft page. When you select a plane in FSX/2004 FSFS will see if it is in the FSFS hanger so there is a .fsr file for it, and if then you can submit scores from that plane to the web. If NOT, then FSFS will estimate the profile of the plane, so you can fly it, and get evaluated, but you cannot submit scores to the web. This because the values of the plane has not been certified by the FSFS team.
When you have flown a plane not in the FSFS hanger (.fsr file) then you can choose .fsu (U for user file) and change the values for the plane, if FSFS got some hickups from some values. (there are so many planes out there, and so many places all the values for the plane, is written in the plane file, so sometimes (not often) FSFS gets it wrong)
So now you have a .fsu file for the plane, and every time you choose the same plane, FSFS will use your modified .fsu file.
If you are 100% sure your values are correct, you can upload the .fsu file to the FSFS forum and have the FSFS team check it out, encrypt it, and make a .fsr file out of it, so you can upload scores from it, eventually.
Hope this clears things for you.

Help please...
I think I found the reason for many of my pains with FSFS, but I need help...
I load a plane... I do have an FSR file (B1900C) and still FSFS tells me it is calculating the data... Also, If I go to the Aircraft page, all values for flaps, etc are zero, and the instructor tells me the flap speed is too high, etc...
The path for data source points to my FSX folder, but of course, the Aircraft data is in the Aircraft folder inside FSFS...
If I select FSFlying School Data, it says FSR file not found... I do have the FSR file
Help
****ok... I removed the underscores in the B1900C file name and now works... So I guess I need to do that for all underscore in the names?
Best Regards

Hi Yes it has to be in the FSFS aircraft folder. In trying to solve this we have to begin by assuming nothing - where did the B1900C file come from?

Thanks The key is to make sure that the name of the FSR or FSU file is exactly the same as the name of the folder in which the FS aircraft exists on your PC. Sometimes the folder names have spaces, sometimes underscores and sometimes nothing at all (the words are all just 'joined up together'). For FS2004 all the aircraft will be in something like: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft For FSX all the aircraft will be in something like: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes Please let us know if you have any questions or are having trouble with anything.

Hi,
I bought FSFlying School Pro 2015 yesterday and I encountered the same problem as reported here by other users. I read the replies, but this did not help me solve my problem so far.
I am flying a Carenado C208B Grand Caravan EX.
In the Aircraft tab, withing the "Data Source" pane, I select the option "FSFlyingSchool Data", but soon after the message pops up "Can't find the FSR file".
[see attachment]
I checked within my computer and I found that FSR files from FS Flying School Pro 2015 appear to be located in the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\FSFlyingSchool\Aircraft
Actually there is also a file named "c208b.fsr" there, but for some reason the program cannot locate it.
The "Data Source" pane appears to point to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X
which is NOT the same folder, however I can't find any option to change that path, in order to make the program to point to the correct folder.
Please note that I made no changes to the default folder structure and that I have FSX classic (boxed) installed in the usual path (although I will switch to FSX-SE in few days).
I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi:
There are a number of possible causes for this but to be frank the fastest and surest way to solve this is to uninstall the FSFlyingSchool program and reinstall it into a new folder. A new folder should be used to be sure there can be no interference from any existing folder or files.
It is never necessary to tell FSFS which data source to use at the aircraft screen. You can optionally tell it to use "User Specified Data" which you have entered yourself.
The most common cause for what you have experienced would be that the FSFlyingSchool.EXE application file, alone, has been moved into the Microsoft FSX folder and launched from there.
There would be no point whatsoever in doing this as it cannot function without a whole set of other files and folders it needs, and I cannot say that is what has happened on your PC - as I say it is best to simply uninstall and install into a new folder.
Once installed please make absolutely certain that when you launch FSFlyingSchool, you are launching the version you just installed - and not some other version that might be on your PC.
Please let me know how you get on! We'll get there!

Hi SquadronLeader,
thank you very much for your prompt reply.
There are a number of possible causes for this but to be frank the fastest and surest way to solve this is to uninstall the FSFlyingSchool program and reinstall it into a new folder. A new folder should be used to be sure there can be no interference from any existing folder or files.
I uninstalled the program. When reinstalling, I accepted the suggested folder, which was the same as usual:
C:\Program Files (x86)\FSFlyingSchool
Basically nothing changed, but I ran several tests and now I have a clear idea about the issue. FS Flying School Pro 2015 appears to correctly detect the aircraft in use and automatically select the appropriate *.fsr file whenever I use a default Microsoft model. In such cases, the complete path of the *.fsr file currently selected is visible under the "Data Source" pane, as expected. However, there are some problems whenever the selected model in FSX is anything else than a default Microsoft aircraft or a model for which a specific detail pack in Flight Schol Pro 2015 exists.
For example, after selecting the default Microsoft Beechcraft Baron 58 G1000, the full path of the *.fsr file correctly appeared under the "Aircraft" tab, "Data Source" pane as C:\Program Files (x86)\FSFlyingSchool\Aircraft\beech_baron_58.fsr. In addition, the "Monitor Beechcraft Baron 58" option under the "Beechcraft Baron 58 Options" pane was also active, i.e. selectable. The same happened for a number of default Microsoft models I tried, for example Cessna C172, Mooney Bravo, Piper J-3 Cub etc. Flight School Pro 2015 always detected the aircraft and automatically loaded the appropriate *.fsr file. Probably this also applies to payware models for which a specific *.fsr file (Detail pack) exists. Unfortunately my Carenado and Realair hangar does not include the models supported so far, but I am positive that this will be the case.
Conversely there are apparently problems whenever a payware model is loaded for which no specific *.fsr file exists. When I loaded the Carenado C208B Grand Caravan EX, I encountered the same problem reported yesterday. No specific *.fsr was loaded nor its path was visibile under "Data source", however FS Flight School 2015 apparently detected the model and the monitor option was active. I then decided to select the default Microsoft C208 Grand Caravan and this time FS Flight School 2015 immediately detected the model and loaded the appropriate *.fsr file. To have a confirmation a made the same test with Boeing 737-800. FS Flight School 2015 detected without any problem the default Microsoft model, but failed to do the same with a PMDG 737-800 NGX model.
My conclusion is that this problem is NOT related to the installation folder nor to the "Aircraft" folder containing the *.fsr files, but has to do with the selected model. Whenever no specific detail pack exists for the aircraft model loaded in FSX, FS Flight School 2015 does not properly detect the aircraft model nor load a generic *.fsr file for that aircraft and in the "Data Source" field a generic path such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X appears.
Anyway, no big deal. I opened several FSR files with Notepad and I noticed that it is relatively easy to build an user-customized FSR file, provided you know some basic data such as maximum allowed speed for any flap position etc., which are normally publicly available in manuals.
In spite of this I am enjoying the program.
