Hi, just wondering if you got the e-mail with the information you requested. Hi Roger - yes I wrote back to you right away via email, with an attached file to solve the problem: June 29 10:29 GMT If you have not seen it then your email system must have blocked it due to the attached file - no problem - I will work from here (the forum). What I said was... FSFS is trying to write the file FSUIPC.DLL (this is version 3.xxx which is required for FS2004) into the "modules" subfolder of the folder in which it believes FS2004 is installed. It has asked the Windows Registry if the PC has FS2004 on it and the Windows Registry has told it that is does, and it is located at: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" Now then... My first impression was that this folder did not exist and so it would clearly be impossible to write a file there. I imagined that it had been deleted at some point - perhaps after FS2004 was no longer in use (most likely retired in favour of FSX). However - the splendid set of data you have included in your email shows that it does indeed exist. This now leads me to believe that the user you are logged in as does not have the "rights" to run a program which will write a DLL file into that folder. DLL files are special files which Windows treats with caution. There are probably 1000s on your PC - they are crucial - but that is why Windows can be a bit cautious with them. This sort of complication now appears in recent versions of Windows, especially Vista, whereby the PC will no longer allow the user to perform potentially dangerous operations, unless the user "insists" that they be given the right. Rather than struggle with the reason for this on your PC, I'd like to suggest a different approach which might avoid the whole process. I have attached a file called: "FSUIPC.DLL" (It is inside the ZIP file I attached) You can also download it from this link if the attachment I have made to this post has any trouble getting through to you. (It is inside the ZIP file at that link) Anyway... once you have that file FSUIPC.DLL on your PC I want you to copy and paste it (put it) into every folder we have created in this process and the one originally referenced by the original message. I figure that means put the file into: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\modules" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Junk\modules" and "C:\Program Files\Junk\modules" The point is that if you have already put the file there, FSFlyingSchool will not bother replacing it and therefore will not even attempt to write the file itself, into the folder. Once you have put FSUIPC.DLL into these 3 folders, launch Flight Simulator, get a plane onto a runway and then launch FSFS and go flying if possible. Let me know how you get on. Thanks for your cooperation - we really want to get you up and running with FSFS. Once we do, we will publish the case notes of this wild adventure and hopefully help others who may experience the same, rare, problem! Regards Roger

Yippee! This solved the problem! Roger is now up and running. Remember folks, as a footnote, this problem can be caused by the Windows Registry pointing to a version of FS which is not longer accurate, because the user has moved FS, or renamed the folder it was in, or deleted the folder it was in. The best method is always to uninstall and then reinstall any Windows application. Good luck Roger!

Hi, just wondering if you got the e-mail with the information you requested. Hi Roger - yes I wrote back to you right away via email, with an attached file to solve the problem: June 29 10:29 GMT Success !!!!!!! A red letter day. I followed your instructions and the settings page shows FSUIPC.DLL being in C:\Program Files (x86)\Junk\ I have also entred the license and Reg. keys and plan to get into it. Have had one practice flight to see if it worked, and it seems great. Though I am going to have to get used to the comment "Definate room for improvement". I have printed off the manual so I can have it along side, and can see it will get lots of use to start with. Sorry about the question I posted in the forum. I have been away for a few days and did not see your e-mail among the new ones, even though it was the first I looked for. Too keen and didn't take enough time. And I was not sure if I had done it right. Jeff, thank you so much for your time and help. I am really looking forward to using Flying School, but I will not be using any grumpy instructors. Had that in the real world, many, many years ago. When I knew I had them, I was a nervous wreck even before we got to the aeroplane. Thank you again Jeff. Regards Roger New Zealand.
