(Posted on behalf of a user of FSFS) Hi, I have paid for and received FSflyingSchool on a CD. I have (or think I have) installed it, but when I click on the desktop icon, I get a message saying that it can not locate C:\program files (X86)\microsoft games\ flightsimulator 9\modules As I only have FSX installed I can get no further, and have no idea what to do. can you please help? Cheers, Roger

>> I have paid for and received FSflyingSchool on a CD. This was a brilliant move... >> I have (or think I have) installed it, but when I click on the desktop icon, I get a message saying that it can not locate C:\program files (X86)\microsoft games\ flightsimulator 9\modules I always look for the unusual item and in this case it is the "(X86)" part of the progam path. Also of course the "flightsimulator 9" part applies to FS2004. It appears that the registry on the PC says that FS2004 is still installed at: "C:\program files (X86)\microsoft games\flightsimulator 9" This is important to FSFlyingSchool (FSFS) as it is trying to write the correct FSUIPC version 3.xxxx files there for you, because the registry has told it you have FS2004. This warning would usually look like this: One quick fix would be to create a folder with the same name as is being reported, such as something like (you'd need to check what it says): "C:\Program Files (X86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Modules" This will give FSFS somewhere to put the files is wants to write for FS2004 and the process should proceed fine from there. Or you can edit the C:\Program Files\FSFlyingSchool\settings.ini file with Notepad so that the FS2004 line reads like this: FS2004=C:\Program Files\Junk\ and create such a folder, then run FSFS and FSFS will write the files for 2004 into there. This is all because the registry says the PC still has FS2004 at the location mentioned, from what I can see. I am not going to suggest you repair or otherwise work on your registry - that is far too serious - you can make that decision if you are qualified or know someone who is. >> As I only have FSX installed I can get no further, and have no idea what to do. can you please help? Try the above and let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your advice Squadron Leader. However, I am still stuck. I created a modules file where you suggested, sadly, it did not do the trick. So Went to plan 2 and have created a junk folder in C:\Program Files. Unfortunately I can not find FSFlyingSchool\settings.ini. Flying School has installed itself in C:\Program Files (x86) and as far as I can see only has 5 folders; Aircraft; Locations; NonILS; PilotRoster and Sounds. Do you think it has not installed correctly? or am I on the wrong track? Cheers Roger

I might be running into the same thing because I am not finding the settings.ini file on my system either?

No problem - we'll get there... C:\Program Files\FSFlyingSchool\settings.ini is a file in the folder: C:\Program Files\FSFlyingSchool It might appear as a file called simply "settings" if your PC is configured not to display the file extension of files (the ".ini" part of the file name). Anyway, the file is a simple text file and will contain a section like this (for example): [FS Folders] FS2002= FS2004=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\ FSX=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ FlightPlan= ...and you should edit the FS2004 section to point to a folder which exists. Make sure you get the folder name letter perfect (no mistakes!) and make sure it ends with a backslash. Save the edited file and then launch FSFS again. It will now write the files it wants to write into the folder you have named... so long as it exists. Let me know how you get on.

Sorry, I still can't find the "settings" file. Apart from the 5 folders I only have 5 files in the main folder: FSFlyingSchool; FSFlyingSchool Manual; FSUIPC.dll; Uninstal and WaveExCtrl.dll Cheers, Roger

Let's try this approach... I have attached a settings.ini file to this post. Download it and put it into your FSFlyingSchool folder. It contains this text: [FS Folders] FS2002= FS2004=C:\Program Files\Junk\ FSX=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ FlightPlan= [Pilot] PilotFile=C:\Program Files\FSFlyingSchool\PilotRoster\LightSpeed.plt [Misc] TransitionAltitude=18000 EndFlight=0 Note that it refers to a folder which you need to provide on your PC called: "C:\Program Files\Junk" This will tell FSFS where to write the file and in creating that folder, you will have given FSFS a place to put it. Once this is finally done, FSFS will launch and you can fly with... FSX! Please let me know how you get on.

Jared: I think we are covering your issues on another post, so I won't cross over into this one in detail just now. If settings.ini can't be seen it sounds like the folder view options are set not to display ini (and similar) files. I am not entirely sure how this is done for ini files (others yes - ini no) and it may even vary with XP, and different Vista versions. Of course - perhaps something went wrong with the installation and the file is, indeed, not there... ... this would be most unusual.

(Posted for Roger) I downloaded the file and copied it as you said. However it still is looking for a folder. I have created the folder you suggested, but the down loaded file (settings) seemed to change what it wanted?????? So I uninstalled flyingschool and downloaded the demo program. It has the settings file ok, and believe it or not the FS2004 line reads =C:\program file\junk. Which I have. But when I click the icon the message I get is "..could not write.....C:\program files (x86)\junk\modules" Which I created yesterday. The download installed itself in C:\program files (x86) as it did from the disc.

Roger: As they say the devil is in the details and I think we need to do this absolutely by the numbers... Can you send me a screen shot of the entire screen when the error dialog box displays saying it cannot write the FSUIPC.DLL. I need to see the path it is describing. To send us a screen shot, press the Print Scrn (print screen) button on your PC keyboard to capture the entire screen and then PASTE that information into an email to us at info@fsflyingschool.com To PASTE the screen capture, simply press Ctrl V while typing in the body of an email to us. The email will need to be in HTML format (not plain text). If you know how to save the screen shot as a file in PAINT and then upload it to the forum, please do that instead. Also - please copy and paste into a reply to this post the exact name of the folder on your system which you created to accept the DLL file. It is something like: "C:\Program Files (X86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Modules" but something like is not enough - I need you to copy and paste this information from whatever source you can make display this entire path name. The trouble is, if the path to the modules folder on your system is different, by the slightest amount, to the path that FSFS is trying to write the FSUIPC.DLL file, it will not work. Any extra or missing "space" is certainly enough to scuttle the whole process. If you cannot find a way to copy and paste it, send us a screen shot of it, but it has to be the full path, ending in the word "modules". We'll get there...
