I used to have Instant Approach running very nicely on my computer but decided to do a clean up of FSX which involved an uninstall of everything and a reinstall this time of FSX Gold instead of Deluxe plus SP2. I have downloaded a new file of Instant Approach but I cannot get it to run - I only get two error messages - numbers 91 and 2147024770. I am running Win 8.1 64 bit. I have FSX Gold installed on E drive in a folder called FSC, and IA installed on the same drive but in its own folder. Could this be a problem? Where should it be installed?

Hi:

For background data - you are using the same PC and the same version of Windows as when FSIA was working?

You can certainly install your program into any single folder on your PC - it need not be the same as FSX or FS2004 or P3D or X-Plane.

I must ask you to try this first before anything else...

Our programs need to be "run as admin" every time - that will often solve problems by itself.

To save time you can right click on the shortcut which starts FSIA and in

Properties... Shortcut... Advanced... indicate to "run as administrator"

and then it will always do just that.

Please try that and let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the feedback - and I can answer as follows - yes, same computer and same version of Windows - 8.1 - and yes, I have run IA as Administrator.

Hi:

Can you tell me, at what point in the operation do you get each of the messages? I need to know for each one please.

Also - if you can get this far in FSIA - can you tell me what path is shown at the "FSX Folder" field of the Settings Screen of FSIA?

Is it an accurate path showing the real location of FSX on your PC?

Dear Squadron Leader,

I get the two messages instantaneously and following each other in very quick succession immediately upon launching.

The error windows come up asking if I want to report the fault (which I did at first) and then I have to quit from these windows and the whole launching process is aborted, so I don't get anywhere near settings screen.

I am running FSX on a second hard drive E;\fsx

Thanks,

David Parker

Hi:

OK - in the folder which contains FSIA there is a file called "settings.ini" which may appear as simply "settings" in the folder depending on the way your Windows settings are configured.

If you double click on that file you will open it - it is plain text.

Please copy and paste the contents of the file into a reply to this message.

Dear Squadron Leader,

Thanks again for your reply but there is no settings or settings.ini file in that folder! Here are the files:

EasySpeech.dll
FS Instant Approach.exe
FS2004.RWY
FSFSRwy.bat
FSFSRWYS.EXE
FSFSRWYS.FSF
FSInstantApproachPROManual.pdf
FSUIPC.dll
FSX.RWY
MakeRwys.exe
tips.txt
Uninstal.exe
WaveExCtrl.dll

I found the earlier version of FSIA (ffs-150) and installed it into another folder and it gives the same fault - goes immediately to those two boxes with error messages, and there is no ini file with it either.

Regards,

David Parker

Dear Squadron Leader,

Not having heard back from you for a couple of weeks about this problem with Instant Approach, I decided to try the Microsoft Compatibility tester and got an 'incompatible program' result! This is very strange because it was working quite OK before I had to uninstall and do a reinstall. I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit which is the same OS and computer as before. I have also tried to run it with compatibility set to various earlier versions of Windows but with the same error messages. Looks like I have bombed out completely and have a dud program for my equipment.

Thanks,

David Parker

Hi David:

Sorry for the delay - we are trying to determine what the issue is.

Rest assured that folks all over the world are using our products with Win 8 64 bit.

>> I have FSX Gold installed on E drive in a folder called FSC, and IA installed on the same drive but in its own folder.

What is the exact path to the folder in which FSIA is installed?

For example it is normally installed here...

C:\Program Files (x86)\FSInstantApproachPRO

Thanks for the further follow up - I am encouraged to know that FSIA is being used OK with Win 8.1 64bit - and it was on my machine before!

I have it installed on E:/FSInstantApproachPro. FSX is on E:\fsx

Thanks,

David P.
