It's me again, I'm afraid ...

I have tried running FSFS on a laptop connected to FSX on my desktop using WideFS. That works well enough, except whenever I use CTRL-ALT-Z or any of the other flight mode keypresses then FSFS appears to see the input twice. E.g. from takeoff mode it will go to cruise and then immediately to landing mode on a single CTRL-ALT-Z or CTRL-ALT-1. Backing up with CTRL-ALT-X or CTRL-ALT-2 returns me to cruise and then immediately to takeoff mode ... Mapping the keypress to a button on my joystick with FSUIPC yields the same result. On the other hand automatic detection of flight mode works fine with this setup.

The problem does not appear when I run FSFS on the computer where FSX is installed. Since you don't mention WideFS in your documentation I don't expect you to support this type of installation, but I was wondering if you have tried it and had it working? If you know the FSFS interface to WideFS works, then it must be something to do with my WideFS setup.

Tom:

Thanks for your question - keeps the forum interesting!

For clarity for other readers I first wanted to mention that the flight mode keys in FSFS all start with
Ctrl Shift
rather than
Ctrl Alt

As to your questions about WideFS, we have not done extensive testing in this area and would prefer to leave that to other simmers at this stage.
We simply have no good data on this subject as we have concentrated on core product development and adding features to that rather than working with, for example, WideFS or multiplayer support.

I can imagine that even with the keystrokes apparently being detected 'twice' by FSFS, this should still be OK unless you have to back up the flight mode. The way I figure it...

...
1. When ready to take off, advance the flight mode - it won't let you leap forward to cruise because FSFS knows you are still on the ground - it will stop at takeoff.
2. Fly smoothly and FSFS will auto-detect cruise.
3. Fly smoothly and FSFS will auto-detect landing.
4. Land smoothly and FSFS will auto-detect taxiing.

So... you can do all this without pressing the keys at all. Just don't descend unless you are landing...!
Yeah - sure - you might have to descend for another reason - I am just trying to think of possible workarounds.

Perhaps other interested Sim-Pilots would like to contribute to this discussion?

What are your experiences with WideFS and FSFS?

Hmm. I was wondering if this was a wide fs issue, I have the same problem. I can't see any settings that may fix the problem unfortunately.

Thanks for your input!

This is excellent data - we now have at least 2 cases of the same phenomenon and that forms a pattern. We will look into this as time allows.

In the meantime, the workaround proposed can still be used - albeit with some care...

Yes same here...for some reason the "forward" and step "backward" commands seem to be registered twice if using it on WideFS.

Never had this with other addons.....should be fixable !

Cheers

Yes indeed - this looks like something which can be solved and we're looking into it.

We'll be very appreciative of extensive testing by those folks with a WideFS rig when the time comes.

hi all , Any further progress on this widefs prob. i too have tried the latest demo , prior to purchasing , and noticed the same . i use  Flight commander 8 , FDC , Active Sky and now this demo on a networked PC.

This would almost definetly help your sales being that you can use this on a networked PC, something that other programs can't do. With FSX being the resource hog it is, one thing i look for in addon programs like this is to be able to run the program on a seperate PC.

Consider some research and development in this area and it could well recieve the rewards you deserve, $$$ too
