Hello,

I've been a customer since the initial FSFS and really enjoy the product and the work you have done. I recently upgraded from Pro to Pro2013 but cannot, for the life of me, get Voice Command to work. Speech recognition works with It's Your Plane, Tower2011 and the simple Notepad, but can't get it to work with FSFS. Speech recognition is not running and I hear all voices plus when I hit "5" it shows FSFS Mic:On but never shows "Roger" or replies back with any answers.

I've tried to adjust the volume of the microphone and it's set in the middle so I think I've done everything right. I guess I should have played with the demo first, but I didn't since the program was always worked well on my system.

Any ideas of where else I could try to troubleshoot?

Thanks.

Hi GM:

Glad you have been enjoying FSFS!

The good news about the Voice Command Pack is that nothing in the technology used has changed in this new version, so we should be able to get this sorted out.

As that did not change... the next place to look would be the configuration of sound related hardware and software on your PC. This seems unlikely to have changed as any change which stops PRO 2013 from working would have stopped PRO from working and that is not something you have observed (based on your report).

Next... I don't think this is your issue, but for completeness I will mention it here... one of our PCs here at our Sinister Lab has a habit of changing, all 'by itself', the device that it considers to the the current 'recording device' and we have to reset that value in its control application every week or so. "It's alive I tell you - ALIVE!"
But... that is unlikely to be a problem for you as your other programs work consistently.

If everything else works fine, including very simple voice recognition (with Notepad), then the next place to look is the installation and configuration of FSFS PRO 2013 itself.

If the Settings Screen... Sound Card Setup is not set correctly - you will indeed get nothing at all. Many PC have several sound devices, and you must use the one that is actively being used for the microphone input, AKA the 'recording device'. You will see a drop down list of all your sound devices if you click the "Other" option at that screen. Choose a different one if you have several and test each one you see with FSFS. On finding one that works, be sure to press the "Save sound card setting" button.

Please let me know how you get on.

Hi. Played around with it a little tonight but still can't get it to work. Honestly I can't remember if it worked with PRO because I didn't use it alot. But I reinstalled Pro and then Pro2013 and it didn't work with either.

I did try PRO2013 on my other computer that has FS9 and it did work fine so it's still a mystery. I did as you suggested and changed the Sound Card Setup to Other/Speakers (Realtek High Def), but still nothing. I then tried to connect a different microphone to the jack on the front and it works on the other programs, but nothing with FSFS.

Hmmmm. Not sure what to try next.

Hi:

So we have seen that is does work of course but not yet on this PC.

What is the Voice Command... Status set to at the FSFS Settings Screen?

How many devices are listed in the FSFS Sound Card Setup list box? Have you tried them all?

Crazy isn't it!

The setting screen shows 2 options: 1) Speakers (Realtek High Def) and 2) Realtek Digital Output. I tried both and no luck. When I choose #2, not audio played either. I tried to attach an image of the settings screen and my microphone properties screen but it doesn't seem to let me. How can I do that? I also ran a registry cleaner.

Let me know if that image helps. I'll try to think of some other things to troubleshoot.

Thanks for trying to help solve this.

Great. Sent it yesterday. I'll play around with some different configurations to see if I can solve it.

Thank you.

Hi -

We have the screen shot - thanks.

You need to tap the 5 key to turn the microphone on and off - are you doing that?

Also - what type of microphone do you have - USB or not?

Finally - please make sure that you are not running the Windows Speech Recognition application (program) at the same time as our product.

Good morning. Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Yes, I have pressed the "5" key because it does show on the screen "FSFS: Mic on" and then "FSFS: Mic off" when I press it again
2. I have tried two different microphones, Labtec head mic and Creative Labs lapel mic, neither is a USB mic). I also tried plugging them into the sound card in back and front mic jack (not at the same time) and then changing the settings in FSFS, but neither worked. I show they are picking up sound when I look at properties or use them in Tower2011 and IYP.
3. Speech Recognition program is not running, I made sure of that.

Last night I tried a few more things: uninstalled FSFS, fully deleted the directory, ran a registry cleaner and made sure the sound card had updated drivers, reinstalled FSFS Pro and then the FSFS Pro 2013 upgrade. The mic didn't work in FSFS Pro either (before the upgrade) so somewhere something just doesn't like something!

I really can't think of any other troubleshooting idea and not sure I want to mess too much with any other settings outside of FSFS (don't want to mess anything else up). So unless there is something we are missing, I'll continue to use FSFS, unfortunately without the microphone. I wished it worked since you put a lot of time into it and it's a great feature.

Thanks,

Marc

Trying to continue my troubleshooting, I figured I'd get FSX flying to see if it was somehow related to FS9 and some of my add-ons. I installed the updated FSUIPC and hit the 5 button......showed on the screen that FSFS mic was on, but still nothing

I found another microphone I had laying around the house and it still didn't work. Must be some strange bug but it drives me crazy that I can't figure it out. Probably the same thing that goes through your mind too. Any luck thinking of something we missed?

Thanks,

Marc
