Hi -

There are several different issues being discussed here - if I recall the A2A Piper Cub's aircraft.cfg file, as I mentioned, says that it has flaps and FSFS "believes" it.

The flaps down while taxiing penalty is applied because the pilot is moving around the airport with flaps down on a plane where the config in FSFS at the aircraft screen says that they are not supposed to be down during taxi, including after landing. That setting can be changed at the aircraft screen if desired.

Hi squadron leader

Ok Im slightly confused here, I dont taxi in FSX whether I take off, cruise then land or using the on approach feature and just land. And I do check that Im in the correct flight mode before I take off...

So, are you saying that after I have landed and stopped on the runway I need to retract my flaps before I end my flight in FSX. Because I end my flight in FSX after I come to a full stop, always on the runway and my flaps will have been left extended. Could this be the reason Im getting marked down for taxiing with flaps....??

Hi -

I think I have the rascal (the issue) cornered, as it were.

After you land in FSFS, if you are moving slowly on the ground, before you have ended you flight, as far as instructor Smitty and friends are concerned, you are taxiing. If you are doing this with your flaps still extended after landing, this is picked up as "taxiing with flaps down".

If this displeases the pilot, it can be turned off at the aircraft screen of FSFS.

Thx for clarifying that for me, even though it goes again what I was taught(real life flying)...never to retract flaps while still on the runway. Maybe for future FSFS Pro this could be looked at??

I see what you mean about the flaps - if I recall this is related to the aircraft.cfg file for that aircraft containing a reference to flaps - but I admit that I am not certain.

Can you have a look at the aircraft.cfg file for that aircraft (in its folder in FSX) which is most likely within...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes

and let me know if it contains a section that looks anything at all like this...?

However is it possible in a future version to allow a checkbox for flaps usage per plane with the existing checkboxes?

There is a "Spoilers" checkbox which FSX sometimes uses to refer to flaps, but it doesn't affect this.

Any way in future we can ignore the flaps regardless of the aircraft.cfg, by the FSU file?

Indeed. I think we may look at the "get your flaps up for taxi" issue - but it is a complex one - we have to consider everything from a c152 to an Airbus 380 and the fact that the pilot may slow to this taxiing speed on the runway or indeed off the runway, and we can also throw in the not uncommon notion of retracting flaps to improve braking... etc.

Regarding the flaps indicated in the aircraft.cfg file...

I am not sure why that indication is there - I can only imagine that it has been used, expertly, to fine tune the aircraft's flight model.

Poor old Mr Smith and friends see it and conclude the plane has flaps.

Yes - we can see that it would be useful to be able to define user data at the aircraft screen and indicate: "This airplane has what I say it has - and nothing more, or less!"

This is something we are looking at adding into a future release.

I have just purchased Flight School PRO and have hit a similar flaps issue.

Mr Smith keeps telling me my flaps are down, when they are fully retracted (I even tried to extend and retract them again).

I have not adjusted the settings as I am using the PDMG 737-900, which is a compatible aircraft accordng the manual.

I am using a Saitek X52 flight control system, which works fine with FSX.

I was also being nagged about the beacon lights, they were on, but he kept telling me they were off.

I would like to know how to get this set up so I can concentrate on flying

Any help would be appreciated.

I see what you mean.

I can see that in this case the problem is not that the publisher says there are flaps on a plane which has none - but rather that their position is not being interpreted.

And the same goes for the beacon.

While the plane is listed as one with which the pilot can submit a score in FSFS, the list of planes are not guaranteed to work without issue on any PC. If I recall correctly, the plane in question was added as some users had the FS 2004 version of 'PMDG 737 - 800/900' and were flying that successfully with FSFS.

This of course is why we offer a free demo so that the user can make absolutely sure that the planes to be flown work perfectly on the PC to be used, with the equipment to be used, before making a purchase.

The beacon can be worked around - you can turn off the instructor's monitoring of the beacon for that airplane at the Aircraft screen in FSFS.

But the flaps cannot.
