Good day when doing circuit training I find myself on a cross wind leg about to tun downwind and the instructor keeps telling me its time to get on the crosswind leg,in other words i am ahead of him in terms of the flight leg. This lag continues until the final leg.
thanks!

Hi Folks (both) -
Puzzling...
There's quite a lot to do to set up for the circuit mode - this is in the manual of course.
Can you describe exactly what steps you take when you set up for your circuit and which runway and aircraft you are using?

Thanks for the reply SL, and a good point about the manual... Since the new 5.7.8 update, I had no problems with two circuit flights, and they were in FS2004 using the DeHavilland Canada Beaver wheeled version at Boeing King County Field. But in all fairness, the problems agreed on in my previous post were on FSX, and I haven't tried the circuits there yet... In these flights, my scores reflected my inaccuracy on hitting the '8 o'clock over my shoulder position' correctly. Everything else seemed in order and correct also. I followed Mr. Smith's instructions, and my timing on getting into the crosswind, downwind, and final were almost dead on correct and 'in-sync' with him. My first circuit, my landing was bad enough to cancel out the circuit/score submission. I had better luck on the next one, though. So for now, I think it's running perfect on my pc now. Speaking of the manual: May I suggest some sort of index at the beginning of the manual, or a table of contents at the beginning for any future manuals? It would certainly be a time saver imo, considering there are 54-55 pages to go through in the current version. An index would make it much easier to pinpoint a topic, much more than pouring through many pages until you find the topic you are looking for. Just a thought...

Hi Steve:
Good to hear about your experience on your PC - excellent.
Yes - the manual could use a table of contents and index. This is something we need to get built.
In the meantime - as a tip for everyone - remember that PDF files (such as our manuals) can be searched instantly on your PC if you just press Ctrl F to open the "find" function.

Did two more flights in Circuit Training mode this morning, this time on FSX. Using the same plane, a DH-2 Canada Beaver (I should say for the record that I am doing all of my flights using left turns only, and kept my altitude within reason imo, as required). It does seem way harder to get in sync with Mr. Smith now in FSX, than it did in FS2004. I am following his instructions, but it seems like I am having to 'fly-search' to hit the right trigger spot before he advances to the next command. To save forum space here, I will pm the info I am getting in the logbook. I will also include the flight maps, they will be the last 4 flights -the 2 with FS9 yesterday, and the 2 with FSX today. Maybe that will help. Thanks.

The steps involved in this flight, FSX, DeHavilland Canada Beaver (DHC-2W US MARINES version, as listed in the logbook):
http://www.fsflyingschool.com/map.asp?id={9F3F72E5-700A-40A1-83D9-D01681323772}
(EDIT: I tried to "direct link" this flight map to this post -I don't think it'sworking)
I start directly on Runway 10 at KAGC heading East, ready for takeoff -engine running, flaps set, ready to go. NAV1 is: ISAQ
I hit 'ctrl-shift-z' and advance to takeoff mode, from taxi mode.
Takeoff (in the Beaver, it's a quick transfer to 'rotate') then hit ctrl-shift-z and advance to cruise mode right after takeoff.
Fly to 1700-and some feet (500 over) at KAGC runway heading, then commence my left turn (as the flight map would show)...
I think that's the info you are asking about, right?
I am trying to be as specific as I can (dealing with recalling that flight 'from memory' on my end...)
Is that enough info, or do you need more? Thanks.

Hi Steve:
Thanks for the data and for the map - all very helpful.
I don't know the specific airplane - but I will ask...
Are you setting NAV1 OBS to the exact runway heading before flight? (As required in the FSFS manual)
Are you using "D" to reset any drift on the heading indicator during the flight? (As required in the FSFS manual)
An idea... one of the best ways to test and to get the hang of circuits in FSFS is to simply fly the flight using the autopilot. You will score no points but you will have precise control of your altitude and heading and should be able to produce a nice looking rectangle with rounded edges, aligned nicely with the runway, on the Google Map.
If you are familiar with the autopilot, can you try this and let me know what results you get? (Include map please).

I pm'ed all the info, including the flight maps. My first circuit was in the DH2 Canadian Beaver, and the second circuit was in the DH6 Canadian Twin Otter. I set the NAV1 on both flights by pressing the NAV1 button in cockpit mode on the radio stack while at the takeoff point, in 'taxi/takeoff' mode. I never did that before, so thanks for the tip. I didn't see that advisement in the manual.(Now I don't get the standard Flight Sim message 'your flight heading is wrong, press D' pop-up message anymore since doing that...) I could not get my AutoPilot to work on either flight, although it did show in both as far as the deduction in score goes -33%. That's all a moot point anyways. My circuit scores were set to 00.00 after my landing was affected by an engine fire on my first flight, and just a plain-old "crappy" landing on my part on the second flight.
