When trying to load FS Flying School I get the message 'can't find Flight Simulator 9'.

When I first loaded FS2004, it was located in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9.  Whenever I loaded an 'addon', I had to browse to locate the Flt Sim. Then when I tried to load PMDG MD-11, the massage was that FS9 could not be found.

I decided to unload FS2004 and all the addon's and reload them loacating FS2004 in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS9.  When I loaded the addon's I no longer needed to browses to locate the Flt Sim, and PMDG MD-11 loaded ok.  However now I find that FS Flying School will not load since it cannot find Flight Simulator 9, it does't seem to recognise FS9.

What can I do???

Hi gedi.

In your FSFS folder there is a file called. settings.ini. Open that with notepad and in here you can change the path to your preferred Flight simulator. Save the file again and it should be ok.

Good luck with it, and please post back with the result. And happy flying.

Hi Gedi. Sorry. I didnt make myself very clear. By FSFS folder I meant your FSFlyingSchool dir. The Directory where you installed the FSFlyingSchool program. It is NOT in the Flight Simulator dir.

In the FSFlyingSchool directory the settings.ini file is. If you have extensions hidden (and it is by default in Windows) then you will only see the filename as "settings" you wont see the .ini extension, but you can just open it in notepad, and remember to save it when you changed the path.

I should have realised that FSFS was flying school and not FS9. I did what you suggested and all's well.

Thanks for your assistance.

Although the program has now loaded It does't run.  The instructions say you must run FS9 and with an aicraft, say on the ground, run FSFS.How do I get to FSFS from FS9?

Gedi:

They are simply two programs running at the same time and you can switch back and forth between them just as you would with any two Windows programs.

You can use ALT TAB to switch programs, or if running Flight Simulator in a window you can choose the program you want by clicking on the Windows Task Bar at the bottom of your screen.

You may be able to press ALT SPACE and then choose to Minimize the appplication you want to swap from.

I would think that most people run Flight Simulator in full screen mode and use ALT TAB to switch to FSFS when needed. Keep in mind that once you are 'connected' and your instructor is talking to you, you will not need to switch back to FSFS, unless you want to review some data or change some options.

Please let us know how you get on.

Using Alt Tab made the difference, I was surprised that there is no mention of this in the manual, also it would be useful if you could access FSFS from the menu bar when flying.
