When connecting FS, I see a red writing (bottom right side) "FSFS2009 runway data not present". I downloaded it, closed everything, even the PC but the red writing remains.

What should I do to install the stuff??

Georg:

Thanks for your question. Please see the Flight Plan Page on page 13 of the FSFS2009 manual. The important part to answer your question is...

"If FSFlyingSchool cannot find the FSFlyingSchool 2009 runway data it will advise you and offer you a button which you can use to generate the data at that time. If you chose to do this, FSFlyingSchool will quit allowing you to restart it later with all the runway data available."

Thanks, Squadronleader. Unfortunately, Manual, ap. 13 doesn't help. When the downloading in ....system32\cmd.exe is finished, the following info appears:

FSFS RunwayGen: Execution Error 13 - Non compatible type. (Remark: these two sentences are translated from French - I'm using a French computer in France - thus your original English version might be slightly different).

Back to square 1: what can I do to install those runway data??

Thanks for all the information.

This is almost certainly a Windows "permissions" issue. The program cannot write the data where it wants to and so the operation fails.

This has been experienced by a very small number of users.

The solution is discussed in detail, on our forum, here:
http://www.fsflyingschool.com/forum/FindPost3157.aspx

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi SquadronLeader,

Thanks for helping me so far. After reading your link I copied the file "MakeRwys" from FSFS into "Flight Simulator 9".

Now, when I click on this folder, it starts again to load somewhere the data of 3.98 but still it does not become available for flying.

Could be my problem is that I don't know how give the order "run". Would you please tell me where to mouseclick in order to achieve this order.

Thanks again.

Georg

Hi again - sorry for the delay - to run a program you open the folder it is in and then double left click on the program file itself, or you can right click on it and choose OPEN or RUN AS...

If you      RUN AS...    make sure you choose an administrator.

Please let us know how you get on.

Bonjour SquadronLeader,

Thanks for taking your time helping. I followed your advice and here is where I am presently: there are three folders in Program Files\Flight Simulator 9:
1) MakeRwys 2) FSFSRWYS 3) FSFSRWYS.TXT

However, when I start flying under the Program "Bremerton Ntl to Harvey(S43) and load it into FSFS, there is still the red line telling me to upgrade the airports. And when I start to fly it becomes clear that the FS teacher does not really know where I am going to.

Is it possible that I should delete N°s 1 and 2 and keep only N° 3? Or should I delete all three and start anew?

What would you do? Sorry to keep you busy with this. I only hope other users might be in need of this info one of these days.

Georg

>> Bonjour SquadronLeader,

Bonjour Georg!

>> Thanks for taking your time helping. I followed your advice and here is where I am presently: there are three folders in Program Files\Flight Simulator 9:
1) MakeRwys 2) FSFSRWYS 3) FSFSRWYS.TXT

Good - we are making progress.

>> However, when I start flying under the Program "Bremerton Ntl to Harvey(S43) and load it into FSFS, there is still the red line telling me to upgrade the airports. And when I start to fly it becomes clear that the FS teacher does not really know where I am going to.

This is very puzzling. The whole point of the process which makes the FSFS runway data is to create the file
FSFSRWYS.TXT
inside your Flight Simulator folder, which, if you are using FS2004 installed at the default location would be:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

Can you confirm for me that you are using FS2004 and that it is installed at this location?

Once that file is in the right folder, we should be finished. That is what FSFS2009 is looking for.

>> Is it possible that I should delete N°s 1 and 2 and keep only N° 3? Or should I delete all three and start anew?

I see what you mean, but please don't delete anything yet. It would make no difference and we may need to use them again or for information.

>> What would you do? Sorry to keep you busy with this. I only hope other users might be in need of this info one of these days.

Absolutely true - all the information we post and discuss here at the forum adds to the body of 'knowledge' on FSFS and helps. I am sorry you are having this trouble - it is our pleasure to help you resolve the issue and bring you all the features of FSFS2009.

You can open the FSFSRWYS.TXT file with Notepad in Windows. Can you open it and copy and paste the first 10 lines of data into a reply to this post? I want to see what it looks like.

Also - make absolutely certain that the user who is running FSFS2009 has administrator privileges on the PC.

Bonjour SquadronLeader,

Yes, I confirm that I use FS 9 (2004) and that it is installed in Progr.Files\MS Games\FS9.
As you requested, here are the only lines the system would give me on note Pad out of the ...TXT file. I mean, here there are only 4 lines, but on the smaller Note Pad I got at least six.

‚S ICAO C 7 RWYTMP C 7 LATTMP N 7 LONGTMP N# 7 ALT N/ 7 HEADING N5 7 LENGTH N9 7 ILS C> 7 RWY CD 7 LAT CG 7 LONG CS 7

Bonjour Georg:

Thanks for the information - there is something very odd about it as the data you have sent is the contents of the file FSFSRWYS.FSF. Perhaps that was renamed somehow on your PC?

Please go to the FS9 folder and run

MakeRwys.exe

again and then run

FSFSRWYS.EXE

This should result in the creation of a file called

FSFSRWYS.TXT

This file should have thousands of lines of data which looks like this:

01,10,N34_51_70,W86_46_26,3,00AL.00AL
19,190,N34_52_07,W86_46_18,3,00AL.00AL
15,150,N34_18_47,W112_9_93,3,00AZ.00AZ
33,330,N34_18_20,W112_9_83,3,00AZ.00AZ
01,9,N37_11_80,W107_52_34,3,00C.00C
19,189,N37_12_58,W107_51_97,3,00C.00C...

...and notepad should be able to read in the whole file of over 50,000 lines.

Once that file is correctly created in that folder you should be finished with this whole process.

Please let me know how you get on.
