Did some forum searches and saw a mention of problems with USB microphone. I've got mine unplugged now, and got a regular mic plugged in. Still on VATSim, and so far on my flight from KGON-KRUT (25 minutes now) no problems. Will report back if this is a successful flight.

Flew for 1.2 hours and no problems FSFS was with me the whole way. Must be the USB Headset/Mic.
I'll do a longer flight tomorrow and see how that goes.

Jerry: Some folks - very few - have had occasional problems with USB sound equipment. I am sure that's what the issue is. Thanks for reporting it here. Let us know how you get on.

Just a follow on. I pulled my USB headset, and am in the middle of a flight, and FSFS gave me the same error. Almost like long flight cause it to crash. I did a few hour long flights in small GA aircraft with no problems. Maybe a sound file is bad?
----
I finished that flight in an A321 from ONT-PHX without FSFS.
I'm now doing a C182RG flight from KRUT-KGON (My home airport). In the air for about 30 minutes now with no problems. The USB headset is plugged in.
Perhaps the problem lies in non standard models in FSX. My airbus is a Metro Virtual Airlines A321-232 that gave me the error this morning. This 182RG is the Carenado model.
I'm pretty confused about what gives the error, but I'm no giving up.

I'm nearly through with a 2+ hour flight using a non-FSX 737, USB headset/mic is plugged in. So far no problems to report. FSFS remained connected through the whole flight thus far. The only difference that I have from other flights is that I'm not on VATSIM. Perhaps there is some FSUIPC conflict from sound events that bangs into FSFS and causes the error.
--
On another note, I've noticed that the instructor when announcing the heading to the next waypoint (can I turn this off?) sometime will drop the last 2 or 3 digits from the heading. i.e. heading 35 when the heading is perhaps 355. This is not always, but sometimes. I can't detect a pattern.
--
I'm still enjoying the program though.

The only difference that I have from other flights is that I'm not on VATSIM. Perhaps there is some FSUIPC conflict from sound events that bangs into FSFS and causes the error. Based purely on trying to find a cause and effect, I would, at this stage, think VATSIM is the odd man out. I think I would be correct in saying that the majority of FSFS users are not using it with VATSIM. That is not to say that they cannot be used together - I am just looking for an unusual factor in the equation. -- On another note, I've noticed that the instructor when announcing the heading to the next waypoint (can I turn this off?) sometime will drop the last 2 or 3 digits from the heading. i.e. heading 35 when the heading is perhaps 355. This is not always, but sometimes. I can't detect a pattern. During testing we noticed this could happen if the instructor has a particularly long sentence to rattle off at that point and 'runs out of breath' as it were. In reality, there are reasons for us to constrain how long the instructor can ramble on because this may otherwise will interfere with monitoring and commenting on other things. Having said that, this was cured. We'll take a look at it again. Can you tell us what (if you recall) the instructor was saying at that point, as in, waypoint number, name, etc? -- I'm still enjoying the program though.

Well, I'm pretty much convince now that the problem was not the USB headset, sound card, or anything like that. After many many flights in different conditions, I'm now about 95% sure that its a conflict with the client program I use for VATSIM flights. (FSInn). Looks like the obvious solution is to not use FSFS whenever I'm going to be online. This is not a problem of course.

My heartfelt thanks to all here at FSFS, and the forum for your support and help as I made my way along.

Now I need to figure out how to get a good score - practice - practice - practice and how to upload the score to the forum.
