Good morning !
Yep, it's me, again !
I forgot to mention this :
Regularly, the instructor ask to check ailerons, elevator and rudder. He always knows when ailerons and elevator are checked; but most of the time, he never "see" that rudder is also checked.
Same for flaps. (all my controls are from Saïtek).
And, if i check everything before i am asked to do (and as i should do !), it's not see too.
Have a great day.
Oliver

Hi Oliver:
Some aircraft (very few) have programming such that the limits of the movement of the control surface, such as the rudder, are not sufficient to meet the extent that the instructor is looking for, so he/she thinks the pilot has not moved it enough.
Also keep in mind that if the pilot moves the control through its full range before the instructor asks for it, the instructor will not ask for it to be done again.
Finally - note that the flaps need to be up, then set fully and then retracted fully to satisfy the instructor.

Hi Jeff,
It seems to be ok for flaps, not for rudder. May it reduce my flight score ?
Regards,
oliver

Hi Oliver:
Glad to help!
Which planes have you tried this with?
I imagine you are using a controller to do this? What is its name and model number?
What happens if you use the keyboard?
To answer your question - everything that the instructor counts as points for the flight and landing will be shown at the log book screen of FSFlyingSchool and recorded in the 'full' log book. The instructor checks around 100 items of airmanship multiple times per second and reports problems in the log book. Flight control checks and some other things are not currently listed there and do not yet affect the score, but we certainly would like to add them at some point.
Have a great weekend of flights!

Hi Jeff,
I'm using the A2A's Cessna 182, and a Saïtek prof Fight rudder pedals.
I won't be able to check with another aircraft and keyboard before wednesday ...
Regards,
Oliver.

Hi Oliver:
Thanks for your reply.
It would be very useful if you could try this with perhaps 2 or 3 other planes so we can see if it is just one plane.
Also - please temporarily turn off rudder control on the controller and try it with the keyboard.
As I mentioned earlier in this topic, this can sometimes happen with very few add-on planes, or in controllers that give unexpected values.
Please let me know what you find when you have time.

Hi Jeff,
Tonight i've tried with some aircrafts, and it's ok for the rudder check.
I'll make further tests tomorrow with keyboard.
Regards,
oliver
EDIT : Same issue, using keyboard ... Same issue using Spadnext or FSUIPC ...

Hi Oliver:
So in summary - the issue is just with the A2A Cessna 182.
Not matter what controller you use, including keys with the controllers turned off - MrSmith does not detect the rudder check.
Please confirm when you have a moment.

Hi Oliver:
I cannot recall if we established - is this P3Dv5?
Please let me know and I will add this to a list of items to investigate. As you can imagine, it sounds like this specific published aircraft has a range of values for the rudder (full left and full right) that is smaller than what MrSmith is expecting.
