Apologies if this has been asked before. I did a forum search but found nothing obvious.
I have just started looking at FS Flying School and note that if offers a wide range of factors that are rated by the 'instructor' Also that more points can be achieved with poorer weather or larger aircraft. However I found no reference to the effects of FS Realism Settings affecting scores. It seems to me that it would be easier to complete tasks such as landing etc with easy settings rather than hard. I would be interested in finding out whether this has been considered and is seen as not relevant or perhaps the settings don't actually affect anything that Flying School is interested in monitoring

Hi Jon:
Great to hear from you here - and many thanks again for your help in the past!
Yes there certainly are settings that can be changed which may make aspects of scoring easier, but please understand that I don't want to draw attention to anything here.
Several settings make things harder on the pilot and so these would go no way to make good scores easy to achieve, but there are indeed others that might make things a good deal easier.
A long time ago, we even had a pilot who has discovered how to basically get around the whole system and submit scores in the name of aircraft he had not even flown, and for good measure he took the time to broadcast this to the web, but happily not so very many people were interested in this sort of thing.
Essentially, all the basic aspects of airmanship control the scores, but if there are crosswinds at landing, low visibility at landing and the aircraft is big (the bigger the better at least for points), scores will be higher.
Please let me know how you get on and if you have any questions.
And thanks for your fabulous work on Airport Design Editor ('ADE')!

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly and for the information. I do understand
Thanks also for your kind words about ADE. I have not flown the sim for the past nine or 10 years due to my development activities and just recently I decided it was time to have another go. While I am enjoying it I also want to do things properly again hence my interest in your program.
I will certainly keep you posted on progress

Just to clarify my position on this for the avoidance of doubt. I was not looking for a way to cheat the system. Actually what I was suggesting is that the points system should have realism settings as part of the calculation. So for example completing a task on all Easy would attract less points than completing the same task on full realism. Seems to me if realism actually does affect the handling of planes then you take account of that in the scoring system.
The issue of cheating never entered my head............................until you guys raised it anyway

Jon
I am very sorry if I accidentally implied that you meant to cheat. Blame second language
I only meant that the system - like most every system, can be manipulated to work against the purpose, but that any pilot with self respect will know to use the system to its full potential, instead of merely to get a highscore.
You do not strike me as a person who would do the latter - just for the record.
Have fun with FSFlyingSchool - it´s worth it.
Ole

Hi Jon:
No question of cheating at all!
It's not a very wise cheat who asks probing questions about cheating, and I know from 'ADE' that you are indeed a wise fellow!

Thanks much Ole. I finally got to fly a Cessna 172. Felt very comfortable. Keeping my nose on the horizon is tricky in real life, and even trickier when you fly in a sim plane with high instrument panel (Cessna grand caravan 208b) What I struggled with has constantly trimming the aircraft - it was a windy bumpy day. I have a trim wheel on my CH Flight sim yoke. Was wondering if you recommend the red buttons as opposed to the trim wheel for trim? Thanks
