I have tried everything to get the voice commands to work and I get no response from the instructors. I use a USB headset and mic and use it with other voice programs like Its Your Plane and it works fine. With Its Your Plane, the speech recognition needs to be opened which makes sense so it can hear me. I don't understand how FSFS can hear me with it closed. I need to know what should be the settings I use to get it to work (on the settings menu). I actually did get it to work once but not since so I know it is capable of working on my system. Please help because I really enjoyed using it. Thanks, Frank

Hi Nicholas:

Well the good news is that it worked once - so we have to see if we can get back to that state.

In regard to the Voice Command section of FSFS, Windows Speech Recognition has 2 essential components:

1. It has to be installed or simply come with the version of Windows you have - we know this is the case. - DONE.

2. The Windows Speech Recognition application (program) must not be running at the time you wish to use the Voice Command section of FSFS. Our software has its own logic built into it to listen for a microphone and act upon it.

Another element which must be set correctly is the Sound Card selected at the Settings Screen of FSFS - most PCs nowadays have several and most likely only ONE will work with FSFS and its sound output and speech input.

So try each one in turn - taking care to SAVE the setting at that screen each time.

Finally - if you are using USB headset and microphone, it is important that they are configured the same way each time you use FSFS. If it was plugged in last time and is not this time, or vice versa, things get more complex and may not function.

Please try these tips step by step, methodically(!), and let me know how you get on.

Well I have tried every combination I can think of. I even have the aircraft sounds coming from my speakers and FSFS through my headset/mic and still no voice command. There is no reason I can see why it won't work. Is there anyone that can tell me their setup that has it working using a usb headset? My choices under settings are:
Speakers (Realtek High Definition)
Realtek Digital Output
Realtek USB Headset.
Also, on the control panel under sound and audio devices what is checked or set as default. I have playback set as my speakers and recording for my headset. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

As long as the sound card is set in FSFS for your headset that is about all you need to get the voice to work as an input. I imagine it MAY help if this is also the setting in the control panel.

Settings for output are not related to this as far as I can see so I'll leave them out of the reply.

Back to basics - what is the setting for listening to voice in FSFS? "Off", "on always" or triggered by "5"?

Also - since the time when it worked on your PC - has anything changed on the PC - e.g. sound hardware or software or other programs installed or changed or removed?

Hi,

I tried both settings ('5' key and 'always on') but mostly use the '5' key. One thing that happened was my speech recognition would not open for some reason so I re-installed it from the FSFS folder. I was trying to run Its Your Plane and couldn't get the speech recognition to open. Now it does work with my other voice programs but hasn't worked again for FSFS. I appreciate you taking the time to help me with this. Let me know if you think that may be the cause of the problem. I did have issues before re-installing speech recognition, as I only got the voice command in FSFS to work the one time.
Thanks.

Well I give up. Since my speech recognition is working fine I can deduce the issue is with FSFS's software that's not working. Is there not anyone in tech support that can look at some logs of mine to see where the problem is? I've even reinstalled FSFS and still nothing. Anybody out there that can tell me their setup that works and let me know?

Hi:

>> I appreciate you taking the time to help me with this.

Glad to help!

>> Is there not anyone in tech support that can look at some logs of mine to see where the problem is?

As you can imagine, that's what we've been doing.

>> my speech recognition would not open for some reason so I re-installed it from the FSFS folder.

Can you expand on this please - what specific program did you reinstall? How did the FSFS folder relate to this?

I uninstalled and then reinstalled FSFS. In the voice command manual, there is a link.
http://www.fsinventions.com/MicrosoftSpeechForFSFlyingSchoolSetup.exe

I downloaded that because before I uninstalled FSFS there was a subfolder in my FSFS folder labeled 'Speech'. When I reinstalled FSFS, the 'Speech' subfolder was not there. It showed up after I downloaded it from that link. Still, not getting any responses, even used a different non-usb headset and no luck.

I asked if there was tech support because sometimes in the logs it might show an error occurred connecting to voice engine.

So if there is nothing left for me to try I guess I can't use that feature.

Anything else I can try let me know.

Thanks!
