I have FSX installed and has been working fine under Windows 8.0 x64 RTM..

I did the upgrade to 8.1.. most everything seems ok, but when i try to run FSflyingSchoolPro 2013 and click connect i get:

Run-time error -2004287480 (88890008).. automation error.. click ok and the program crashes..

FSFlying school shows the correct FSUIPC and fsx directory etc..

I've tried running both under compatibility mode as a test, both win 7 and win 8 compat mode.. no joy..

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi:

I need to be very clear - you are reporting that FSFlyingSchool PRO 2013 for FSX ran fine with Windows 8.0 but is causing this error since you upgraded your PC to Windows 8.1?

I did some further testing on a clean image of windows 8 I had.. 8.0.. even on that image.. i get invalid procedure call or argument run time error 5.. so it would seem for me at least, its not working on 8.0 or 8.1..

Very puzzling - so, I need to be very clear - you are reporting that FSFlyingSchool PRO 2013 for FSX ran fine with Windows 8.0 but since you upgraded your PC to Windows 8.1 it cannot now run under 8.1 nor 8.0?

No, i think the confusion was that when i started testing it.. i hadnt clicked connect.. i did the upgrade to 8.1 that evening.. so in my case it Never worked under 8.0 or 8.1..

Is there anything I can look for to troubleshoot.. any log files anywhere I should see if there is further info or details?

Hi:

OK - connect never pressed - that would certainly explain a little.

I'll mention first that FSFS certainly works with Win 8 - loads of our customers have it.

So that in itself is certainly not the issue.

There is something about your PC which is 'special' and we need to find what it is.

- Have you altered any of the default (standard) settings of FSFS since it was installed? Many of these do not require the "connect" button of FSFS to have been pressed. Anything there?

- Do you have any extra or unusual hardware or software on your PC? This can often be an issue especially if it is related to sound software or hardware.

- Please make sure that when you launch FSFS you are running no other applications other than your chosen flight simulator.

- Is your PC used for software development (programming)?

I didnt alter the settings after it was installed.. but I did try changing the sound options in case that was the issue (saw this mentioned in another post).. it was the only app running as well..

This machine is used for development as well.. i have visual studio 2012 installed, .net versions 2 through 4.x i believe.. i did see something online related to the automation error suggesting .net 1.1 issues.. but that cant really be installed or seems like its not the case.

Could you post a screenshot of the error? Before capturing the screenshot please try to move the error dialog to the side so I can also see the FSFlyingSchool window too.
