Hi Squadronleader,

I'm disappointed in the forum possibilities.

Today I installed IE 8 and now I can't upload images from disc anymore. Also this works not from Fireworks or Chrome.
Further there are no possibilities to insert p.e. a list, a table and that sort of things.

I don't know if this are just settings to change, or that the Instantforum does not support this kind of things at all (should be for a payed forum).

There are many free forum programs that can do better!

Can you please do something about it?

Kindly regards,

Jacob.

Jacob.

Hi Jacob.

I too have installed IE version 8, and I have no problems uploading images from disc, so it must a problem on your machine..

As for tables and such. If you look at the WWT posts you will see tables here and there by Joe and me. I just cut and paste for instance spreadsheet-tables directly into the post. No size compression is made and the table is shown clear and good.

Here is a screenshot from a testflight using failures in FSFS, uploaded from Version 8 just now.

And here is a freshly made table from Excel cut and pasted into the post.

Thisisanexampleofatableinexcel
IsimplycutandpastewhatIwantinmyFSFSpost

So it works fine, both in old versions of IE and in V8

Hm. Jacob.

You have a point there afterall. Im getting strange "unexpected errors" too - just like Joseph did. Strange thing is I get them on some of the screenshots, but others seem to work fine, and absolutely no idea why some works and some dont. I can upload some pics from one flight, and others from the same flight, gives me the errormessage.

I have uploaded a few pics in the braggin post in flight competitions, just to show that some of them actually goes up fine.

I am not dissapointed though, with FSFS, as the problem must be from some difference in IE, as the old version worked flawlessly, and FSInventions have no way of foreseeing such changes. Furthermore this forum is powered by "Instantforum.net" so if one should be dissapointed, it should be with those guys, but they would have no way of foreseeing how IE develops, so still it would be unfair to claim dissapointment if you ask me.

But of course the people behind "Instantforum.net" must be made aware of the problem, so they can correct it. I see that FSFS is using a version 4.1.4 @ 2009 so updates seems to be happening here also.

Jacob:

I'm very sorry to read that you are both disappointed with the forum possibilities and, as stated in this post's subheading "The forum should be more user friendly".

We put a great deal of work into FSFS and the forum every week and try our very best to meet high standards.

I'm very grateful once again to Ole, who is not an employee of FSInventions, for taking the time to look into this, to experiment with data, and to publish his detailed findings on the subject.

I don't doubt that you and your team are doing the best you can.
Although I've not an answer on this particular problem.

To insert some screenshots cost me a lot of extra unnessecary time.
When I as a Firefox user (which is the most used browser these days) want to insert a screenshot, I first been forced to use IE.
Second in the default configuration of IE 8 I don't get the possibility to get an image from disc; only from a http address.
Third copy and paste something from Excel te get a table isn't userfriendly in my opinion.

Of course this had nothing to do with the product of FSFS and FSInventions. They are great!

But I think that a userfriendly forum wil also be attractive for users to post and using the product.

Kindly regards,

Jacob.

I must say that, even if Im not Jeff, I disagree with you on all points.

How did inserting screenshots cost you "a lot of unnessecery time"?
That Firefox is the most used browser these days, well I highly doubt that. IE is on every machine Ive ever seen, firefox is NOT. and the same goes for the actual USE of the browsers.
That the default config of IE8 does not have the image from disc possibility is simply not right. Its exactly as it was in IE7 on my machine (default settings) (I suspect that you might, by mistake, have used Firefox and thats why the problem came up - I do that frequently ) actually I have just downgraded my IE to version 7, and the problems still remain, so I guess that an upgrade of the instantforum is the cause of it. I have mailed the Instantforum.net guys about the problem.
And finally I would prefer to copy/paste every time over inserting like with the pictures, thats just a matter of taste.

And Jacob. I still think that you shoot at the wrong people. FSInventions did not make this forum - yes the forum, but the frames in which the forum is made, is done by the instantforum.net guys, so the firefox problem is their doing, not FSInventions. Just to make that clear.

Userfriendliness... I have never been on a forum more userfriendly than this one, but again its just a matter of taste, userfriendliness being lots of things.

Just thoughs from a big fan of this program and this forum.

Ole,

Then we disagree totally indeed.

As far as I'm concerned: discussion closed.

Im very sorry to hear that Jacob. We cannot solve anything if we cannot discuss it!
I have spent quite some time since yesterday, thinking about the problem you described, I have made changes in my system, back and forth, to see what was the problem. Yes I disagree with you on the cut/paste issue, and I think you are blaming the wrong people, but I am trying to be constructive and I try to find solutions, or make the people who made the changes, that made the posting of pics a problem, find solutions. I thought you might like that, and It makes me sad that you get mad about it instead.

I hope that you have tried once again, in IE8 to see that the possibility remains to post pics from local drives, just to rule out the possibility of the human error I descibed above - and that I have done myself many times.....

But Jacob thats your desicion to wanna discuss it or not, and it seems that you´ve made it.

I still hope that I can get it solved, so we all can post pictures again.

And if you change your mind and wanna have a constructive debate about this, then by all means let me know.

Testing uploading an image using Firefox 3...

I'm specifying the location of the file as D:\downloads\wheel.jpg

I don't have IE8 on my PC, but maybe they've changed the upload dialog and you need to type:
c: and press enter so you can browse your local disk?
