Just wanted to, as SqudranLeader suggested, make a small forum where everybody can brag, discuss, and tell or ask questions about the FSX hardware we all use and love.

To start this out, I have a Saitek X52 HOTAS.

and I have used it for flying about 2½ years. I love it. It let me map so many settings including FSFS combos, and I can fly fixed wings, helicopters, combat flying (oops not FSFS though) and everything, but as time went by I felt more and more, that I wanted to have a proper flight controller for civil flight - a yoke, pedals and throttles.

Now I have gotten all those things. A Saitek Pro flight Yoke and Throttle Quadrant,

and Saitek Pro flight Pedals.

I am awaiting Saitek Switch Panel And then I should be set up for desent flying. I´ll have only myself to blame for bad flyihg.

Flight has taken a whole new side to it, for me. I feel very good when I drive around the ground, and it feels so great to fly around. I feel very much in control of the plane, and have a feeling about the plane, much better than with the X-52, but when it comes to landings, I find it hard. The micro adjustments needed to land the plane softly, is not achievable to me yet. I tend to overreact on the pitch, and baloon over the runway, or bump down.

Its just a matter of getting used to it. And I am getting better day by day, so I feel confident.

What I would really like others to do is this.

1) Take a picture of your setup "in action" or at least set up properly, and post it.
2) Write down the mappings you have on your hardware. What buttons do you have mapped for what? That way we can learn the best settings (I know its an individual thing - but still) from each other
3) Talk about good and bad experiences you have or have had, with your FS9, FSX, FSFS (or course - thats why we are all here ) and your current setup.
4) Sigh, wish, brag, tell, ask about what, why, when, how about...... everything. Let us know. We want it, we need it. We love it!

I

Urgent update: I have now completed my setup. The Saitek Switch Panel is in my hands. I´ll take some pictures of my new system and post it later.... and make a review on how it all interacts.

Many kind regards

The FSFS pilot

After defragging, reinstalling fsx, add-ons and general tweaking. I am back in the

skies finally.
Yoke is definately taking some getting used to, as are the pedals. Co-ordinating

arms, hands, fingers, legs and feet all at once is quite challenging.

I love the programmabilty of all these buttons and modes, and using the saitek sst

software is pretty easy.

I am currently using one profile.

Mode 1 is blank so operates all the standard fsx keys its meant to.

Mode 2 is for FlyingSchool B1&B2 to advance and back-up flight mode. C1 is to enter

circuit mode. C2 landing gear. am also going to program E button to snap view

front. Until i get my trackIR that is...  .  i use the blue middle lever for flaps.

T1 engine auto on, T2 engine auto off.

Mode 3 is racing mode, which has full throttle as D button,  b1 is increase

throttle while B2 cuts throttle.  A1&A2 cockpits 2D & 3D and E is reset eye point.

Challenges at the moment are, trying to land without accidently using differential

brakes, and landing instead of floating or splatting.

I am tweaking and tuning to get better ciruit scores than acheived with the

logitech 3Dpro.

I would be pretty miffed if I did better with the £20 option. LOL

Good news about reinstalling fsx I get to refly all the missions and get badges..

hooray.

On my want list is obviously track IR, and base shaker, after that will prob need

to start upgrading system to cope with all the extra's.

An inspiron slimline desktop, with low profile interior and not a lot of spare

power, might struggle a bit.

I was lucky enough to get a radeon 2400 HD put onto a low-profile bracket, other

wise I would never have been able to run fsx, unbearable thought.

The x52 pro does look pretty good, I might take a closer look, especially for Tom

Clancys HAWX. However theres a joystick called the black widow, which is

force-feedback, and gets some good reviews and only £25ish.

Saitek rumblepad stuck to top of my yoke clock gives a little bit of force

feedback, tried logitech steering wheel, but it kept falling of the chair. LOL

Which virtual airlines would you guys recoomend for a fairly novice flightsimmer,

am no where near getting my fsx PPL yet, so need something that does not expect to

much.

Does anyone know how to cure blurry text in menu's and atc messages, it's quite a

problem, as often I cant read the atc options.

ThanQ LaLa

shhh, its therapy.

LaLa:

Sounds like a pretty slick rig coming together...

>> Saitek rumblepad stuck to top of my yoke clock gives a little bit of force feedback

What a clever idea! Indirect force feedback!

>> Which virtual airlines would you guys recoomend for a fairly novice flightsimmer, am no where near getting my fsx PPL yet, so need something that does not expect to much.

I cannot help much here - I was a member of, erm, a Virgin (I think) VA once and that required a pretty darned stiff entrance exam requiring lots of detailed knowledge of flying (simulated) commercial jets.

Can anyone else help LaLa?

>> Does anyone know how to cure blurry text in menu's and atc messages, it's quite a problem, as often I cant read the atc options.

This is a new one to me. What kind of display is it?

Anyone else got any ideas?

I totally agree with you on that one.... Buy its a lot tougher that I thought. I have ideas all the time, to just backtrack and use my X-52... but NO!

I love the programmabilty of all these buttons and modes, and using the saitek sst

software is pretty easy.

I thought so too, until I got my Switch panel. It removes my SST software in installation, and when I reinstall it, (the SST) It wont work. That panel is NOT just plug and play - I tell you. But I am still confident that I will get it to work properly.

Gotta have that TrackIR - its SO good.

My problem too. The hardest part about the Yoke is that I cannot seem to make those micro-adjustments needed to get the plane the last 20 feet down -soft. I pull slightly and the plane goes 50 feet up, and Smith says "Your balooning" or I push slightly and I hammer down on the runway - and get a "you landed too hard" Good old Smitty sees it all.

I am tweaking and tuning to get better ciruit scores than acheived with the

logitech 3Dpro.

I would be pretty miffed if I did better with the £20 option. LOL

force-feedback, and gets some good reviews and only £25ish.

Ive never seen that one before Cannot buy it in Denmark, but It looks cool - and for such little money...

Saitek rumblepad stuck to top of my yoke clock gives a little bit of force

feedback, tried logitech steering wheel, but it kept falling of the chair. LOL

Boy you are inventive. I have a Pilot head set, with rumble in it, so I get it in through the ears. I also have a Logitech MOMO stearing wheel with FFB, but never thought about using that....

Which virtual airlines would you guys recoomend for a fairly novice flightsimmer,

am no where near getting my fsx PPL yet, so need something that does not expect to

I draw a blank on that one - sorry!

much.

Does anyone know how to cure blurry text in menu's and atc messages, it's quite a

problem, as often I cant read the atc options.

Are you using a flat screen monitor? if so, is FSX set to the default monitor pixelsettings (like 1440*900) or whatever. Many flat screen monitors are only sharp when set to their default setting. If your desktop is sharp and its set to default, but your FSX is set differently - then that could cause blurring - but I am ONLY guessing here...

ThanQ LaLa

Lets get used to that yoke the both of us, and make huge scores, what do you say? I know that Mr.Smith will do all he can to help us out...
