I am running FSX and FSFS 5.3. All are working well except that the flight instructor does not recognize that I have advanced the flight mode by pressing CTRL SHIFT Z or CTRL SHIFT 1. The instructor does recognize the change in flight modes automatically but it is often too late to keep him from rating me poorly for something I have to do to for instance lower flaps during approach. HE thinks I am still in cruise and eventually recognizes that I am decending.

Hi -
I'll start from the basics - the most common reason by far for this problem is the FSFS application (program) has been launched before the pilot has 'entered the cockpit'.
If this is the case, the keys may not work correctly.
It is essential that FSX is launched first - then the pilot gets into the aircraft (either on the ground or in the air) and only then, last of all, is the FSFS application (program) launched. At that point, options in FSFS can be set and then 'connect' is pressed in FSFS.
You should now find that the keys work fine - every time.
If you have not already done so, can you try this out and let me know how you get on?
