| how can I download the iPhone app from the App store? I have a licensed copy of FSFS Pro 5.3.

It's a mobile web app, so it's not downloaded from the app store.
However, due to some 3rd party technical problems it's not currently available to buy.

Is this why it is grey'd out in the GUI?

FSFS Cockpit does not function unless it has been purchased.
Sadly this is not currently possible due to the problems John described.
