I have FSFS for X-Plane installed and working on a Windows 7 system. I like it a lot. I bought it for my son, but I fear that I could get sucked into this great fun very easily.

I understand the instructions to "Run as administrator" and it is working. However, my son's account does not have admin privs which requires me to be present every time he needs to start FSFS. I cannot, at this point, give him admin privs on his account nor can I allow him to run on my account. Do you have any suggestions to work around this requirement?

This brings up the question of why admin privs are needed? I do not mean to pry into proprietary FSFS information. However, it is generally not a good idea to simply give everyone the root account password. While it means that everyone can run everything, it also means that everyone can destroy everything.

Would there be any interest in overcoming this requirement? I would be happy to help if possible. Again, I am not trying to pry into FSFS IP. I would simply like to see a better solution than giving everyone all permission.

Hi and thanks for trying our sofware. So glad your son is enjoying it.

The increased security levels brought in by Vista and Win 7 have led to this situation and we have looked at alternatives, but the issue seems to be that we cannot reliably, in all instances, communicate with X-Plane or indeed FSX without administrator access.

For most folks this is not an issue as they are the administrator of the PC, but we do see that this is not always the case.

If we have any news on this we will certainly post it here at the forum.
