After rebuilding my computer over to Win 7 64 bit I have been installing all of the programs used in FSX and testing them to get everything working. Initially I installed FSFS and ordered the voice command add on. An initital test went bad with the program stopping. I then went back to get the other programs checked out and to brush up on Voice recoginition. This has gone well and I can control all of the ATC commands and replies with the voice recoginition software. I have run the Tutorials a couple of times to get better tuning. I also have been using the program to run the computer and dictate memos. Went back to FSFS today to practice using the voice commands and have been having quite a few problems with the aircraft performance and the problems are:

  • Engine ran out of fuel on runway at start of flight.
  • Engine explodes on end of runway doing checklist.
  • Loss of engine power shortly after take off forcing an emergency landing in a field.
  • Engine stopping on across country flight forcing another landing in the woods.
  • The instructor does not respond very accuratly to commands and they have to be repeated to work or do not work. The ATC commands work 95% of the time first try.
  • The ATC commands work better with FSFS turned off.

After the last engine explosion I disconnected FSFS and flew several circuits without any problem. I have most of the realism settings set to very hard and have allowed enginge stresses etc. The plane used is the Carenado Cessna 172. Searching the FAQ and other messages I have not seen many problems with the Voice command addon. Have you had any other reports of trouble? Any suggestions?

I have been checking more items since the post above. I did not have the Mic switch programmed because my settings had the Always On selection,  selected and the other selections were greyed out so the Mic switch option was not avialable. I shut down and rebooted and the other selections were avialable so I selected the Mic 5 switch on to talk. I have also put the ATC menu on the MIC switch as a shifted function so I can have both functions controlled by the MIC switch in a seperate mode. I just completed a test flight and the voice commands were working. There is a difference in how you have programmed the voice commands from the standard voice recoginition proceedure in Windows. With the voice recoginition panel showing sleeping you normaly cannot talk to the computer and it does not recognize any commands. Within FSFS all of the commands are recognized while in the sleeping mode. Is this the way you programmed voice recognition to work in FSFS?

You don't need to load Windows Voice Recognition to use the FSFlyingSchool Voice Command Pack.

FSFlyingSchool uses Windows Voice Recognition, but in the background, so there is no "sleeping mode". Instead you configure the speech settings in FSFlyingSchool - either Mic Key or Always On - and then FSFlyingSchool handles the voice recognition.

Good to hear that it's working for you now, and sorry that it wasn't clear!
