From my flight log for this flight:

Landing Score:0.00
Autopilot used.

Landing was successful in the following areas:

* Good glideslope on visual approach.
* Good alignment with runway on visual approach.
* Gentle touchdown.
* Good landing speed - not too fast.
* Wings were level.
* Distance from touchdown target (visual approach): 1784 feet
* Glideslope held until flare.
* Good pitch control after touchdown.
* Good pitch at landing.
* With flaps - good job.
* Heading aligned with runway.
* Throttle(s) idle.
* Good controlled final descent to touchdown.
* Good steering after landing.

A splendid landing!

Was it because it is saying that I used autopilot for the landing of which I didnt? I turned off auto pilot as soon as I got final approach instructions.

Confused!

That darned "splendid landing" statement again...

Yes - you got MrSmith and his friends there - that needs to go.

The situation is this - everything about the landing was splendid - except that the instructor expects you to land right at a certain spot on the runway, and if you just sail on past it and land gently hundreds of feet past it - you get what you got.

If you land more than 400 feet past that spot - your score will be zero.

The manual explains where the spot is and how you can change it if you wish.

If using ILS - just follow the needles, flare and land. No magic spot.

Finally - see the manual about autopilot. You can use it in cruise mode no problem (see details in manual) but if you leave cruise mode with AP still on for more than 10 seconds, you will lose points.

Thanks for the explanation.  I need to find the 'sweet spot' then!  I did know about landing at a certain area, I was a little confused about the 'Splendid Landing' quote though.

By the sounds of it your gonna patch the product so it says something slightly different!

Yes - and we plan to release a version soon which will allow the pilot to land anywhere reasonable on the center of the runway - not at a specific spot.

Let's say that is "coming soon..."

How large is the margin for error on a visual Landing?

I'm generally within 80 feet or better of the target and all the other gradable criteria are good.
I'm still waiting to score better than a 0.00 on my landings.

Hi BADWX:

We need to see an example log book entry of one of these landings - if you could post it in a reply to this post.

If you are within 80 feet of the landing spot then you should certainly be getting non zero scores.

Generally, if you are more than 400 feet from the landing spot (which only applies to non ILS approaches) you will get a score of zero even if everything else was perfect.
