Hi,
I really enjoy flying with my beloved instructor. Never boring, always a pleasant, lively, helpfull presence.
The only thing I don't understand is why does he keeps giving me zero scores to reward my "splendind" landings.
Example :
Landing Score:0.00
Landing was successful in the following areas:
* Good glideslope on visual approach.
* Good alignment with runway on visual approach.
* Gentle touchdown.
* Good landing speed - not too fast.
* Wings were level.
* Distance from touchdown target (visual approach): 797 feet
* Glideslope held until flare.
* Good pitch control after touchdown.
* Good pitch at landing.
* With flaps - good job.
* Heading aligned with runway.
* Throttle(s) idle.
* Good controlled final descent to touchdown.
* Good steering after landing.
A splendid landing!
Best regards
Thierry

Hi - Thanks for your kind words. This is something we will fix ASAP. The problem is that the log should not say "A splendid landing" because it has already indicated: "Distance from touchdown target (visual approach): 797 feet"
which the instructor rates as a poor landing (zero points). This is discussed in the detail in the manual, but essentially, when you are flying a visual approach (not ILS), the instructor expects you to land at a specific spot on the runway (see manual for details). The further you land from this point - the fewer points you will score. If you miss that spot by more than about 400 feet, you will get zero. This is something we are looking to fine tune in the next major version of FSFS - we want the instructor to be tolerant of 'longer' landings so long as everything else is OK and the pilot has plenty of runway left in the end. Other than that - you landing looks great! Try to put the plane down right at the landing spot (see manual) and you will be scoring some pretty darned good scores! It's good practice too in case you ever have to land on an aircraft carrier...

I see what you mean. As I mentioned, this is something we are looking to fine tune in the next major version of FSFS - we want the instructor to be tolerant of 'longer' landings so long as everything else is OK and the pilot has plenty of runway left in the end. We are working on taking into account several factors including the type of aircraft and runway length, threshold etc.
