when I am on final approach, and I check my obs heading against my course heading, whenever the instructor says "poor landing heading," I know that when I switch back after I have landed, the flight plan disappears. is this on purpose? I got a 0 landing score ( which frustrates me no end) once I put in my landing runway assigned, should I not keep checking back?? Thanks a lot.

I think it would be best for us to start by looking at the log book report of the flight you described. Can you please copy and paste the text for that flight from your log book into a reply to this post?

The flight plan is cleared after the flight ends as it has been completed. A new plan can be loaded at any time.

NAV1 OBS just needs to be set to the exact runway heading before the approach.

We'll take a look at what you send and go from there.

The log says that the approach did not follow the glideslope well - this should be easy to remedy by following the instruments during the ILS approach.

It also refers to steering after landing - FSFS expects you to steer straight down the center line until you enter taxi mode, at which point you can leave it.

Hope this helps.

thanks. I know after I land, I'm retracting the flaps, but when atc tells me to taxi onto the next taxiway, fsfs still thinks I'm in landing mode, and therefore not staying on the center line. maybe I should switch modes before I taxi off the runway???

Absolutely. Advance to taxi mode and then you are free to make your turns.
