Hi there - For a full account of the process of evaluation and scoring, please read the PDF manual, but for a quick answer... Scoring zero for the approach is going to happen if the flight is not set up the way that FSFS expects it. If you are flying a visual approach (not using ILS) all you need to do is file a flight plan to the detination airport and load it into FSFS and select the runway you will land at. You can change the destination or the runway while you are in flight if you need to. If you plan to use ILS then you do not need to file a flight plan, but the experience will be richer if you do. But note - if you are doing a visual approach but your aircraft is getting an ILS signal, then the instructor will rate your approach based on that ILS, that is, it has precedence over your 'intention' to go visual. This is explained in detail in the manual. Let us know how you get on.
