I am trying to run the demo version of Flight Simulator Flying School (version 2.2.0) with FS2004. But I keep getting the error message ”No Flight Simulator found“. The detailed corrections are: * Shut down FSFlyingSchool. Run FS2004 & get a plane on the ground ready to fly. - Run FSFlyingSchool.
I fly the Cessna 172SP from Meigs field in Illinois.
I follow the instructions – start FS2004; get an operating plane; and start FSFS – but the error comes up in FSFS and I cannot connect it to FS2004. I have not been filing a flight plan.
I have installed both FS2004 and FSFS on drive C:\ under “Program Files” but store data on a separate internal hard drive D:\. But I don’t think this affects anything – the” Flight Simulator Files” folder is on C:\. FSUIPC is version 3.7.0.0.
On the Settings tab for FSFS there is a message re FSUIPC Status: “Can’t connect – IPC timed out all retries”. Don’t know what this means.
My PC meets the min standards listed in the FSFS manual.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi - The problem is that FSUIPC is not communicating between FSFS and FS2004. This has to occur for FSFS to work. 1. When you have a plane on the runway in FS2004 (you are sitting in the cockpit) do you see an item on the FS2004 menu at the top of the screen in FS2004 which says "Modules"? 2. Does that menu contain an item called "FSUIPC"? 3. What happens when you select that item (if it is there)? 4. Did you see the FSUIPC version you reported to us ("FSUIPC is version 3.7.0.0.") from the Settings Page (screen) in FSFS? 5. If you are not certain this is already the case, please try doing the same as you did but quit Windows and log into Windows as an administrator. This will often make a crucial difference depending on a complex list of factors. 6. Which version of Windows are you using? 7. Start your plane on the ground at Chicago (KORD) airport - this is located well within the free demo area, outside of which, you will not be able to fly, as explained in the PDF manual. Having said that - this is not the cause of the problem you reported. Let us know how you get on.

Hi –
Thx for your support – I really appreciate it. The answers to your questions are below.
The problem is that FSUIPC is not communicating between FSFS and FS2004. This has to occur for FSFS to work.
1. When you have a plane on the runway in FS2004 (you are sitting in the cockpit) do you see an item on the FS2004 menu at the top of the screen in FS2004 which says "Modules"? Yes
2. Does that menu contain an item called "FSUIPC"? Yes
3. What happens when you select that item (if it is there)? A window opens “FSUIPC Options and Settings”.
4. Did you see the FSUIPC version you reported to us ("FSUIPC is version 3.7.0.0.") from the Settings Page (screen) in FSFS? The Version is shown as FSUIPC Version 3.70 July 28, 2006. This differs from the properties of the dll file in the FSFS program folder – which is shown as version 3.7.0.0 27/07/2006 9:9PM.
5. If you are not certain this is already the case, please try doing the same as you did but quit Windows and log into Windows as an administrator. This will often make a crucial difference depending on a complex list of factors. I always run as the administrator.
6. Which version of Windows are you using? Vista 32 bit.
7. Start your plane on the ground at Chicago (KORD) airport - this is located well within the free demo area, outside of which, you will not be able to fly, as explained in the PDF manual. Having said that - this is not the cause of the problem you reported. You are right – starting at KORD makes no difference.
Let us know how you get on.
With FSFS running I found it listed under Windows Blocked programs. Its classification is shown as “Not yet classified”. Now all I need to do is figure out how to change that to “Permitted”. Hopefully, this will help. I’ll let you know – unless you have any other words of wisdom.

At last -- success!!
I right-clicked on the FSFS program shortcut in the Windows toolbar and ran the program as Administrator in the window that opened. That worked!!
Thx for your help.

Hi again - glad you are up and running. Sounds like good old Vista was preventing FSUIPC from communicating with FSFS.
