I just bought FSFlyingSchool.  It is great to get feedback.  I also purchased "Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots Real World Training".  I think that this book + FSFlyingSchool will make a great combination.

So to start out, I am just flying a Cub taking off at a small airport, flying a few miles out and then landing again.  I enter the flight plan 2B9->2B9.  So I taxi, takeoff, cruise and land advancing through the file modes manually.

What happens though is that I just get a Landing Score and evaluation but no Flight Score and evaluation.  How do I trigger getting a Flight Score?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott,

I'm just asking, did you make sure you chose your flight plan within in FSFS?  You created it with FSX, but you also have to make sure you select that plan within FSFS.

Also, under the flight plan tab, you have a couple options of when the flight ends:
1. Stopped or taxiing
2. Stopped and Brake Set
3. or Stopped & Brake set & Eng(off)

Might check your settings

Yes I also loaded the flight in FSFS.  I even made the glidescope 4 degrees and confirmed that FSFS loaded it from the non-ILS folder.  I also set the OBS (using the Cessna and then switching back to the Cub).  I also tried the 3 different settings below but it did not make a difference.  When I land and stop taxing, I get the feedback right away about the Landing Score but not about the Flight Score.

Thanks for the feedback but still trying to figure out what is wrong.  In the flightplan, can I land at the same airport I am taking off from?  Do I need at least one waypoint (i.e. 2B9-WP1-2B9)?  I will experiment.

Yes you can land at the same airport as taking off....i just did about 2 or 3 flights myself.  I'll try the Cub myself and report back.

Hi Scott P

In my opinion you just bought the best addon for FSX/FS2004 there is to buy!

FSX, FSFlyingSchool and MSFS X for real pilots. Thats one strong cocktail. I have the book too, and its very cool, (remember to download all the flightplans, and extra material mentioned in the book)

Now please forgive me if I ask a stupid thing, BUT: You are aware that you only get the landing score and - evaluation, oraly? You have to switch to FSFS page after the flight is done, and go to the "logbook" tab, to see the score and evaluation for flight - in writing. (and landing too, with more detail than the oral evaluation)

And if you choose the middle option for ending flight (stopped and parking brake on) you have to press ctrl-period, so actually end the flight, and only then will you be able to sumbit the scores to the web.

You might know this already, but sometimes its the little things.

I figured it out.  Thanks everyone for your help.  I have the Flight Plan set to "End flight when Stopped & Brake set & Eng(s) off."  But even though I have stopped, pressed my regular and parking brake, and have cut off the engines, I still only get a Landing score/eval.  The way I can get the End Flight triggered is to shut down everything and then click on a different End Flight option, like "Stopped or Taxing".  Then Mr. Smith says that the flight is ended and I get a Flight score/eval.  Seems odd but no big deal.

One other thing to mention that I am doing is that I bought all of the PDF Computer Pilot back subscriptions. Roughly $1/issue.  Really cheap.  They contain great lessons as well.

Off to some flying.  Hopefully Mr. Smith isn't too cranky!

Scott:

Welcome to the Squadron!

So glad to see that things are working out and thanks to the guys for the time they took to help out.

I think I may know what's up with ending flights - as described in the manual, in the 3rd mode of ending flights it is stopped, parking brake on, fuel cut.

This may involve pressing the FSX keystrokes described in the FSFS manual to fully cut the fuel. Some folks have had trouble cutting fuel using flight controls which don't quite correctly register "fuel cut off" and yet other folks simply don't cut the fuel.

This should do the trick.

Please let us know how you get on.
