Hello, I have a fairly normal setup (laptop DELL XPS + Vista 32 + FSX + Acceleration, no addon) and I have been trying to install FSFlying's demo for a few hours now, but unsuccessfully. I installed FSFlyingSchool and then the FS4U-something for FSX free utility I was supposed to download and install. I believe the two software are installed properly; I did the installation under my account and I have Administrator rights. I load FSX, then a flight (Cessna 172 SP at O'Hare). Then I load FSFlyingSchool, I click Connect, it speaks "FsFlying School Connecting", then I I load my flight plan; it says in red: "FSFS2009 runways data not present", I click Generate runways data for FSX & quit FSFS", it opens a DOS window, works hard for a few minutes, then says: Total airports = 24490, runways = 58017. I click OK then I get the error: FSFSRunwayGen Run-time error '13': type mismatch I click OK, then FsFlyingSchool quits; if I reload, I have to redo the same thing (connect, load flight plan, regenerate all airport runways and crash). Note that if I right click the shortcut for FSFlyingSchool, and then in the Compatibility tab, I get the option "run as administrator" grayed out: I cannot run FSFlyingSchool as an administrator. Maybe this is the cause of the problem? maybe not? Can you help? THanks Max

Thanks for your interest in FSFS! The good news is that FSFS Classic and FSFS2009 are running on Vista and XP with FS2004 and FSX all over the world. Your program installation is complete, but the runway data is not yet. For some reason the 2nd stage of the runway generation procedure is having a problem. I would like to suggest that you open Windows Explorer and launch the following program which should be in the folder in which your Flight Simulator is installed. For FSX that would be this program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\FSFSRWYS.EXE For FS2004 that would be this program: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\FSFSRWYS.EXE (The folders could be in different places on your own PC). To launch the program just double click on it. The program (an APPLICATION file) may be displayed as simply FSFSRWYS if your Windows Explorer is not displaying file extensions. If you have more than one file called FSFSRWYS make sure you double click on the one that is an APPLICATION file. Once launched the process should display a message box with "FSFlyingSchool Runway Data" as its title and show its progress for a minute or so. Once it ends, having generate 50,000 or so runway data elements for FSFS, you are all done. Launch FS, get a plane ready then launch FSFS. If this fails, try right clicking and running FSFSRWYS.EXE as an administrator. Please let me know how you get on.

Hello thanks for your answer. Actually if I double click the program FSFSRWYS.EXE in my "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" folder, I get the error right away: in a little window titled "FSFSRunwayGen" I get: Run-time error '13': Type mismatch OK I can also run it as an administrator, but I get the same error Max

Hi Max - thanks for the feedback. Can you please take a moment to locate this file on your PC: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Runways.txt This file should certainly be present (the folder in which you have installed FSX may be different). We want to examine this file, but as it should be around 88MB, could you please copy about the first 1,000 lines of this file into a new .txt file and then send that file (just the first 1,000 lines) to: support@FSFlyingSchool.com please? If you need help with this - just let me know and I will explain what to do. We will examine the file and see if we can spot anything that would cause the program which examines it (FSFSRWYS.EXE) to have a problem.
