SL and others,

One of my WWT stops was Faroe Islands.  What a nice little place out in the middle of nowhere.  I will preface by saying I did not set up a Non-ILS approach for the runways, because when I did my FSX map function, I had both green ILS approaches, so I thought I was good to go.  Got the frequencies, etc.

I had both frequencies tuned, just waiting for the ol' ATC to direct me in.  Well, about the normal 60-80 nm range, ATC came back saying...."Blah...blah...blah...expect visual approach runway 25.  I thought...what the heck...but recognized the command and flew downwind, etc...and turned onto final.  ILS frequency was working.  After looking at alternative approaches there was a Visual 25 and and ILS 25.  Although at times I thought that was strange, but I debated on changing it to ILS 25.  Well I didn't "thinking" I'd be ok, because even Mr. Smith stated I was tuned to the frequency...so I thought I'm good to go.  Upon landing, I got all the messages of nowhere near, you suck, no glideslope, etc...(the "suck" part was added for dramatic effects).

Anyway, my question is, does FSFS pick up on the visual coming from ATC, or should I have switched and forced it to the ILS-25?

So another big fat Zero on my landing score.  I'm gonna have to add another 57 stops to make up the difference....

Additional Question
[Edited from another flight Dublin, Ireland to Liverpool, England]

Had a flight plan that took me basically east from Dublin to Liverpool with a couple VOR's tuned.  Just about 3 miles from my 1st waypoint, FSX ATC makes me go north up the coast for a while then back east towards Manchester, and then back west for a Runway 27 approach.  By doing so, I never passed any of my waypoints.  So, just by following ATC, I'm guessing I don't get any "points" for making my waypoints within "X" miles do I?  I did get a great score by my standards:
Landing: 96.65 and Flight: 105.97    I'm liking this VC cockpit the more and more I use it!

I hang up and listen...

I don't follow what went wrong - if you landed at rwy 25 you would get a good score if you had a nonILS file (which you didn't as you've explained) and so your only other choice is to go with ILS as explained in the manual.

What was NAV1 tuned to? (This is shown in the log book).

If it was tuned to ILS for 25 then you would have had a good score if you followed the ILS.

FSFS cannot follow what ATC is saying. We do not have access to that information. You must land as described in the manual and if ATC suggest otherwise then request a different runway. In this case if they said visual for 25 it would have been no problem if the pilot had tuned 25 ILS.

So another big fat Zero on my landing score.  I'm gonna have to add another 57 stops to make up the difference....

You are entirely correct. If you want the ATC experience - which most of us do - then follow ATC and enjoy it.

If you lust for glory and points, points, points, then follow your waypoints.

Well done Joe!

Well there's always something that would explain it.  I will check tonight and see if I can figure it out.  I'll look at my error log again.  I will be the first to admit as usual I'm a dummy!
