Very new to FSFS and enjoying it a lot. However, I cannot see what the instructor is expecting me to do by way of a run-up check for the standard XP11 (G1000) during the taxi phase. Obvioulsy, it includes running up the engine but what else is he looking for? Probably a dumb question for all the ace flyers here but I just can't see it! Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Bluejet99:

Great to hear you are enjoying FSFlyingSchool and that you are getting into the details!

Smitty will describe the run-up for you when you press the "next checklist key" Ctrl Shift N if it is the right time for a run-up.

The run-up Smitty is looking for is described on page 8 of the Cessna 172 Detail Pack manual on your PC and I have extracted it here also...

- Run up
[Taxi mode and engine running and not yet done run up for current flight]
This is part of a before takeoff checklist.
Select location free of debris and with no people, aircraft, animals or vehicles downwind (behind your airplane)
Stop while facing into wind
Parking brake SET
Throttle 1800 RPM
Prepare to turn ignition key to check magnetos
Confirm less than a 150 RPM drop on each magneto
Confirm less than a 50 RPM difference between magnetos
Turn key to left magneto
Turn key to right magneto
Turn key back to left magneto
Turn key to both magnetos
Throttle IDLE

...at which point you will hear Smitty announce "Run-up complete!"

Have a great week of flights!
