I had to reset my system(can't resist tinkering with boot files) and on reloading FSX, FS Approaches I have a problem. FSX loads fine, I get to the cockpit to fly and load FS Approaches, connect and when trying to bring back FSX, it is running but dark. I use the keys alt,tab to change apps and I think that must be a problem but I can't remember what it is. I use win 8.1, NVIDIA and have FSX and App both config to run as Admin.

Hi again Charles:

Glad to help.

From your report I imagine you are using FS Instant Approach. You also mentioned FSFlyingSchool earlier. Can you confirm which one you are using please?

>> when trying to bring back FSX, it is running but dark.

I am not sure what this means - can you describe the problem in a little more detail?

I'm using FS Instant Approach. I have FS school also. When I say dark, I mean the screen is blank, nothing there. I load FSX, get in the cockpit to fly, Alt-tab to get back to desktop, load FS Instant app, connect. Alt-tab to get back to FSX and it is blank. FSX is running but nothing there.
I think I remember this from some time ago but can't remember what I did.

Hi Charles:

Not sure if you've tried this, but some folks prefer to run FSX in "Windowed" mode so it is easier to see which programs are running. You can move in and out of this mode by pressing
ALT ENTER
while in the cockpit in FSX.

This makes things easier to manage (to see what is going on) and can also change how Windows displays programs, to the extent that on some systems it is the only practical way to exit and return to FSX at will.

If you have not done this - can you do so please and let me know how you get on?

All is well. I should have tried that but it just didn't occur to me. Alt_tab worked fine before I had to reload the OS and Apps. A puzzlement!
Thanks for your prompt replies. Bet I leave the disk tinkering alone now.
