Hello

I have tried several times using the "On Approach" feature and the default Cessna 172 to practice an ILS straight approach to CYYZ, RWY 24L, NAV 1 set to 111.95, hdg 237, and about 16 miles out. Correct settings are selected in Flight Plan page of FSFS. The Auto pilot and App selected in the plane. Instructor reads out the correct RWY 24L but at 1000 feet I am instructed to turn off the auto pilot. I don't disable auto pilot because if I do the ILS approach will be disabled so I keep on flying using the App. I am flying straight down the RWY 23l with glide slope being captured. When about to land the instructor verbally changes the rwy from 24L to 24R and also changes the NAV1 to 109.3 from the 111.95.

When I fly the same approach without using FSFlyingSchool the ILS straight approach to RWY 24L it works fine.

Any ideas?

Using Windows 7Home Premium, FSX standard, FSFlyingSchool Pro 2015.

The instructor advises turning off the AP as the c172 is not meant to be flown to landing on AP. Note that the ILS approach can then continue to be flown with the AP off. You just have to do it yourself, by following the needles.

I am not sure but I imagine you are talking about 24L rather than "RWY 23l"? I need to know what you mean otherwise.

If 24L - then if the instructor announces you are landing at 24R this would be because you are heading towards it rather than 24L.

If you were nicely lined up with 24L then this suggests that perhaps the airport is an add-on and the runway files have not been generated by you in FSFS since the airport was added to the simulator. Is this the case?

Finally - loading a flight plan into FSFlyingSchool is entirely optional - but recommended. Was a flight plan loaded into FSFS?

HI SL

Yes I meant RWY 24L. The plane is lined up perfectly for 24L and at the last second, just before touchdown, the instructor verbally changes the RWY to 24R and the plane sometimes quickly moves to the right to try and line up with RWY 24R.

NO addon scenery but I do have GEX for NA and Ultimate Terrain X for NA.

No flight plan was loaded. I was just using the " On Approach" Starting Situation found after selecting Flight Plan from the list of options at the top of the program.

Any reason as to why the instructor asks me to disable the autopilot when passing below 1000' when on an ILS approach?

FSFS's instructors attempt to determine which runway you are landing at if no flight plan is filed and there are times when the layout of the runways at the airport means that the instructor picks a runway which is not what you or I would have chosen. These cases are rare, but I just flew the approach and sure enough, Mr Smith, at 500 AGL, right on cue, announced that we were landing at 24R, not 24L.

This is because 24R was considerably closer at that time and within the forward arc FSFS instructors look at the determine where we are going.

Understood. In that case we would expect the instructor to attempt to figure out which runway you are landing at rather than simply looking at the flight plan you had loaded.
