As a new user a couple of things seem to be slightly awry, I have been doing a series of short flights from EGTK (Oxford) with Orbx scenery, (in case that makes a difference) on approach to rwy 10, the instructor is telling me I am above the glideslope, but the PAPI clearly shows me smack on the glideslope (2 reds, 2 whites) what is the program using to define the glideslope? The runway has a 500ft offset threshold, is this affecting it?

Also, during the startup the instructor goes through the elevator, aileron and rudder checks, I don't have a rudder pedal setup, I just use a twist grip (Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS) but the program doesn't recognize it, It doesn't seem to mind me not checking it, but it might be nice if it did see the check.

Otherwise, so far I am enjoying the program, even though the instructor seems excessively fussy at times and is clearly in need of a lesson in chilling out a little.

I am inclined to agree. I found the instructor to be very quick in warning any deviation from the GS. I think that the sensitivity to a deviation when approaching via PAPI/VASI is likely to be more than with an ILS Glide Slope. I would also hope that the program takes account of where the PAPI/VASI is in relation to the runway and also the actual GS angle. While most Glide slopes are 3 degrees they can be different in the real world and also it is possible to edit these in the SIM both in respect of angle and placement. It does seem that the instructor has access to better and more accurate information than the pilot when landing via PAPI/VASI since I was told repeatedly that I was below the GS when I have two whites and two reds. I admit to ignoring Herr Gruppenführer and hitting the numbers My landing score reflected my disobedience of course

Hi Kim:

Firstly please be sure to always generate runway data using FSFS if you have any add-on scenery, and also whenever you add more. Only then will FSFS have up to date information on what is on your own PC.

In the case of ILS approaches, the instructor is looking at the needles on the NAV1 navigation equipment.

The instructor's evaluation of the visual approach glideslope is something we've been working on for some time as although it is doing a fine job with ILS approaches, it can be off a little with visual approaches, sometimes, and this varies with a number of factors we've been wrestling with.

We've just made improvements on this and these are in the next version (a free update for 2015 owners) of the product soon to be released (which will also contain the optional Twin Otter Detail Pack).

As for the rudder - I'm happy to report that this sounds like a simple one! You will get confirmation of your rudder check so long as two things occur:

1. You need to have "I use a rudder controller" turned ON at the pilots screen.

2. Your action must turn the rudder through a significant arc and this may or may not result from your input device, be it keyboard or other controller and indeed, on some aircraft odd results can occur.

Please let me know how you get on.

Hi SD:

Thanks for your report!

As you'll see I've tried to cover this as best I can in the post to Kim, so be on the lookout for the new version update which anyone can try out and also serves as a free update to owners of FSFS PRO 2015.

And of course - I don't know if you already have but please be sure to generate the runway data using FSFS so it matches the airports on your PC.

Many thanks to you both - we really appreciate input such as this as it leads, whenever we can make it happen, to core improvements in the products.

Thanks

I have re-generated the database each time I update any airport data but it is a good reminder since with other apps I have forgotten with frustrating results
