Hi!

Newcomer here to FSFlyingSchool - it's just what I was looking for to progress from 'just messing about' to trying to do something a bit more accomplished with my simulator.
I am up and running with the software and have since made a number of flights with Mr Smith. FSFlyingSchool is everything I could have hoped for and more - it has really put the thrill and sense of reward back into my home simulator experience. Thanks for this wonderful tool!
I hope you can help me with a small problem I'm having. I fly the Carenado B58 Baron most of the time, so I was very happy that my FSFlyingSchool bundle came with a detail pack for my favourite aircraft. Asides from the odd grumble from Mr Smith due to turbulence, he seems generally quite happy with my flying until my final approaches, when I try to deploy 1st increment flaps. "Too fast for flaps, retract them", he barks, even though my IAS is below the 152kts, max permitted speed. The landing gear deploys without complaint and the IAS is now lower than 140kts - but Mr Smith is still complaining I am flying too fast for flaps. Concious of the rapidly approaching runway, I attempt to deploy full flaps in an effort to get slow down to landing speed, again well within the maximum speed permitted for full flaps. This time Mr Smith complains again, followed by what sounds like something awful happening to the flaps... I'm forced to land with the flap lever stuck at the first increment and with the IAS much higher than I would've liked... All things considered, I was still pleased to be awarded a landing score in the 70s...

This is happening with every flight in the Carenado B58 Baron (with Mr Smith) I wondered if there is anything I can do to resolve the situation? I'm new to FSFlyingSchool, I see some people are editing a file to iron out gremlins with their favourite aircraft? Anything I can do or is there an option I can disable?

Many thanks for your kind words - this is always appreciated!

We can certainly help - you are simply using an aircraft (by Carenado - not LM) for which there is no pre-built data in FSFS and so FSFS is estimating values for flap use, etc.

You can resolve this in 2 minutes by putting the data into the fields at the Aircraft Screen as described in the manual.

Or you can simply go into the Aircraft folder of FSFS and copy the file:

"beech_baron_58.fsr"

to a new file called

"Carenado BARON 58.fsu"

Note that the new file has to have the EXACT name of the folder in which your plane is installed AND end in ".fsu"

Finally when you fly again, connect FSFS making sure the simulator is NOT PAUSED and then disconnect FSFS. At this point it will have 'seen' the plane you are using. Then go to the Aircraft screen of FSFS and click on "User Specified Data" to force it, thereafter, to use your file: "Carenado BARON 58.fsu"

Note that as explained in the manual, such FSU files have not been checked over by us (they could contain any data ) and so cannot be used to submit scores to our website. But of course you will get scores when flying - just not submitted to the website.

Thank-you so much for your prompt and concise response! Admittedly, I'm a bit embarrassed I haven't yet fully read all of the manual whereupon I might have discovered this for myself... Sounds like it will be easy to do the same for the rest of my favourite 3rd-party aircraft too.

Many 3rd party aircraft will already have built in data, but if they don't - well that's the magic of FSFS.

Most likely the data automatically estimated by FSFS will be all you need, but you can always fine tune it at the Aircraft screen if you wish.

Done a few of these now, so definitely got the hang of it. Spent most of this evening trying to find max flap speeds to use with the Alabeo C207 Skywagon...
