Hi All,

For my background, I am just a hobbyist and by no means have any flying experience; just trying to get better at flying in FSX using FSFS.

I have noticed that during approach, the ATC instructs me to maintain a certain altitude say 2000ft until established on the localizer, which I do. However, my instructor keeps nagging me with "You are below the glide slope" thing until I either ignore his instruction and wait till I intersect the glide slope or ignore the ATC's and climb. I am not sure if this affects my score, which basically seems unfair when I really fly well and get a bad score. Nevertheless, I would think that FSFS should be able to acknowledge the ATC command and instruct me accordingly on establishing on the localizer.

I am sure there are many who have already seen this and was wondering if there is some setting or something that I am missing or if the software cannot presently deal with this.

Thanks.

Hi:

I see what you mean about ATC - FSFlyingSchool has no contact with it and you can choose to fly with or without it.

Most folks who have a little experience with FSFS turn off the automatic detection of landing mode so that they can trigger it themselves, either by talking to the instructor or by pressing the keys to advance to landing mode. It is only then (in landing mode) that the instructor will talk about runway alignment, GS, LOC, etc.

If this is done when you are "about to land" you will find that the instructor and ATC are headed in very much the same direction.

Scoring of your approach only looks at the last 500 feet of your descent to landing - what you do before then is simply analyzed under the general concept of 'airmanship'.
