I started with flying circuits, but I guess I do something wrong...but what is it?
Below I pasted the details of my flight. I turned the OBS to the right heading (checked it with the data output on screen), but why does it say NAV1: --- ? Does this matter?
As I fly the upwind, crosswind, downwind and base leg are fine (Mr. Smith confirms this). NB: I waited to turn downwind to get some extra time. I earlier tried to turn exactly on 1000 ft AGL -> no luck...
As I am flying base Mr. Smith tells me to turn to final => but this is way too early! If I continue and turn to final at 500 ft AGL the result is: no glidescope info etc.. and a low landing score (see below). If I only practice landing there are no problems => I usually score 70-85....
FSFS also reports that my final leg is too long => but how it this possible as the total flight is only 8 mins.?
What am I missing?? NB: I tried several different airports and I also followed the instructions found in post #11002 exactly (or so I think).
I would appreciate some help!
Regards,
Matthijs

Hi:
Looks like you are almost there!
>> but why does it say NAV1: --- ? Does this matter?
This means that NAV1 was not tuned to a NAVAID - which is what you want if you are not doing an ILS landing.
To confirm - it is essential that the OBS is set to the runway heading and that you are pointing in that direction when you start circuit mode.
The evaluation reports that you did not land on the runway surface OR that the approach was not established - be sure that when you descend below 500 AGL in landing mode you are pointing at your destination runway otherwise the instructor will not know where you are landing and will treat the landing as if you landed in a random location, such as a field or a street.
Are the airports you've tried add-on scenery? If they are then you most likely need to run the process to "generate runway data" in FSFS.
Please let me know how you get on.

OK, that was the trick! I kept my altitude at 600ft AGL before turning to final => now Mr. Smith confirmed the runway number (so information about the glidescope etc was available). I have my first circuitscore (86)!!!
Thanks a lot for the help!
The only thing that still puzzles me is the fact that Mr. Smith says "turn to final" way too early. In this flight he said it directly after I turned to base.... => I ignored it and it turned out OK, but still the question is why? The only thing I can think of it the fact that my downwind leg was quite long...

Matthijs

Hi again:
Excellent result!
As for the turn onto final - please fly a circuit and then use FSFS to submit your flight map to our website. Then reply to this post with the URL (web address) of the map and we can all have a look at it! I'd love to see it and will then be able to attempt to solve the riddle.
