| I recently purchased and enjoy most of the fun stuff in this program. However, finding that engine fires occuring 2 out of 6 flights is a little non-realistic. I checked all my settings - set to easy in FSFlying School and off in FSX - what am I missing that needs to be changed? In my mind, if this happened once in a 250 flights might be a little more realistic, less is better! I have logged several hundred hours in FSX in the Dash 8 which is my favorite plane with no occurencies of this type. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:
Good to hear you are enjoying the program. 
This is not in any way typical so we have to determine what is different about your set up. 
Some folks have experienced unwanted "bird strikes" if they are using the FSFS Voice Command Pack and have background noise in their PC room which is detected as a request for a simulated bird strike. 
Are you using the Voice Command Pack?
When you get an engine fire - do you hear a loud bang and do other plane controls fail?
Is "failures" turned on in FSFS and if so - what number is the slider set to?

| Thanks for the quick response! I am not using Voice Command Pack. I do not have any other onboard failures when this occurs and there is no noise etc. Failures are off in FSFS and the slider number is set to 99 - Easy. Weird one for sure!

Hi -
In continuing the case it is always best to assume nothing - so here goes...
Are you using the failures features of FSX at all?
Do you have this problem when you fly any aircraft with FSFS or just the Dash 8?
Who published the Dash 8?
What is the full title of the Dash 8 product?
Is it always the same engine or does it vary?
Which version of FSUIPC are you using?
Please let me know.

| I will supply the answers to your questions the next time I am around the PC running flight sim, HOWEVER ... I may have stumbled on the solution for the problem, still doing test flights but have had some success with the following: Previously, I was not having FSFS monitor the engines but since checking this option, strangely enough, I have done 3 flights with no occurencies of the fire in engine 1. Nothing else has changed but my early take on this is that the problem may be related to not allowing FSFS to monitor the engines. Flying habits and aircraft remain the same. My goal here is to complete 10 flights with this condition set and if everything goes well, perhaps then your developers can explore why unchecking this option might produce the emergencies. Stay tuned ...

Thanks for the input.
We've checked that "monitor engines" is currently only concerned with looking at the pilot's use of the mixture control(s) and nothing else.
Regardless, when you have a moment, please go through the questions I asked - the more data we have the sooner we can solve this for you.
