I am not having much luck advancing modes. Have searched this on the forum, and read the other 3 posts that came up in the search. None seem to address the problem, though I did try one of the suggestions made to the best of my knowledge. More on that later.
Basic information:
Exact FlyingSchoolPro Version: 5.1.0 Registered Copy
Exact Windows version: Windows 7 64bit with all updates current
Exact Flight Simulator version: Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX Gold: FSX Deluxe 10.0.6137.0 FSX-Xpack 20070926-1421 [SP1 + accelerator]
Exact FSUIPC version: 4.7.5.8
Is FSUIPC registered? (It does not need to be, but we need to know if it is). NO
PC RAM (Main memory): 4GB
PC Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E7200 2.53Ghz
PC Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS
Names of any other Flight Sim add-ons running at the same time: VATSIM (FSSinn, FSCopilot)
Names of any other software applications running at the same time - we ask this because a number of programs such as Snag-It and Camtasia may conflict with key mapping.:
Microsoft Outlook 2007, XYPlorer, Chrome, Skype, Adobe Reader (your manual)
Joystick: Logitech Extreme Pro 3
Comments, and what I've tried so far:
* No, the ATC screen is NOT open.
* Using FSX control settings removed both the keyboard and joystick settings that associated the ctrl-shift-z with the altitude bug.
* Using the Logitech software assigned ctrl-shift-z to a button on the joystick.
Still does not work. Occasionally, after much key pounding/joystick button pressing, I can advance it from taxi to takeoff, but that's rare, and the only response I've had. Result is the instructor is always dinging me for taxing with my flaps down (in take-off), descending during take-off, etc., because I cannot advance the mode.
Appreciate a solution.

Hi - I'll start from the basics - the most common reason by far for this problem is the FSFS application (program) has been launched before the pilot has 'entered the cockpit'. If this is the case, the keys may not work correctly. It is essential that FSX is launched first - then the pilot gets into the aircraft (either on the ground or in the air) and only then, last of all, is the FSFS application (program) launched. At that point, options in FSFS can be set and then 'connect' is pressed in FSFS. If you have not already done so, can you try this out and let me know how you get on?

That worked, many thanks.
So now my question is, once I've initially entered FSX and FSFS correctly as you've described, if I want to start or stop a flight in FSX, and then make changes, or switch to another flight, what is the correct procedure?
I.e., do I need to totally end FSFS each time, and the restart, or can I just disconnect in FS, set up my new flight in FSX, and the just connect from FSFS?
Thanks
PS: Your manual tells you you can save a flight to view in Google earth, but I could not find anywhere that it told you actually how to do it. I would not have know except for your tip email, which I do appreciate. Just FYI.

Hi - Glad all is working for you! It's just the initial procedure that is important - after that you can end flights, disconnect at will from FSFS, etc and the keys will still be fine. For reference of other readers on this forum, the manual refers on page 26, in the Log Book screen section to a button marked: "Save & View Google Map of Flight" (displayed after Disconnect pressed). Just press the button and the flight map will be saved.
