Hello!
I'm very happy to join the FSFS club
I just have a small teething problem, I don't hear any sounds - no voices in particular.
I can't hear them when I press the "Listen" button in the control panel, nor in FSX, although FSFS is running for sure (I even get the written report at the end). Any clues I might use to follow?
A quick search on "sound" in these forums suggests nobody else has met this one? Something silly my side then, any clues welcome, otherwise I'll reinstall and keep trying np.
All the wav files are winamp files because winamp is my default sound player - could that be a part?
I'm using FSX, very latest FSUIPC from schiratti.com... SP1, latest 1.6 FSFS... all other sounds are good, and I'm getting the text messages from FSFS in my FSX just fine. My sound settings also seem fine in FSX - I get ATC voices etc.
Curious - any tips appreciated, otherwise I'll get there in the end ha!
Can't wait to get bawled at by an instructor
Have a nice one,
Dominic

Tell me what happens when you press "listen to instructor" when FSX is not loaded - do not load it - just start from a clean boot and then load FSFS.

Sorry to be such a bother... I got it working, I'm not sure how, not sure it matters either?
And just I had a super first flight EGSS-LFAT, things got really bumpy as I passed LYD and I got some complaints!
I was suitably pulled up by my instructor... which is what I was looking for, a bit of discipline...
Nose held too high - spilt drinks and worried expressions. <...say no more...>
Thanks FSFS is all I hoped it would be!
cheers,
Dominic

Dominic: Great to hear all is up and running and many thanks for the kind words! Can we quote you in our materials? So... do you have any ideas what may have changed in order to get the sound working? We'd love to know if anything does come to mind as this just adds to our body of knowledge.

Hello
You surely can quote me; I am only 2 flights in, I find FSFS excellent, and my flying skills are being nailed, which is exactly what I hoped I would get
I have also been wondering what was stopping the sound working. These are my 2 suspects - they both look reasonably innocent bystanders on their own, but perhaps together they created some kind of audio snafu?
1. I use a USB headset, and I do find the USB headsets quite temperamental. However I was successfully hearing all the other sounds in FSX including ATC, which is why I was ruling headset out as a possible culprit.
2. I turned Skype off. Skype does have an interface to the USB headset, so maybe something was happening there. However I cannot recreate the problem if I turn skype on again: I can hear the voices with or without Skype running today. So again not a black and white case.
But nothing else changed - no reboot, no reinstall, just walked away from my machine for a few hours and fired up FSFS for the 5th or 6th time. Perhaps walking away is the secret
Glad to have arrived, and thanks for such excellent support,
Dominic

Dominic: Thanks for the information about the audio suspects - I agree there's nothing obvious to me either, but at least we've got it on the forum which may help other users in future. You never know, I'll bet one day someone will find that using FSX (patched) and FSFS, you can't fly a Sunderland south across the Caspian Sea with a coffee mug warmer plugged into USB port 3... Such is the world of the computer...
