I was flying from Kahului Maui down to Kilua Kona on Big Island when the ATC told me to go around when I was going to land at Kona. FSFS did not recognize the command and disconnected. Should I fly without ATC or not?

Hi - Disconnection takes place deliberately for a number of reasons described in the manual (changing the time of day, slewing, etc), but this is not one of them. Disconnection is always explained at the log book page when it occurs. You can indeed fly with ATC, but they may take you away from the waypoints assigned in your flight plan (if you have one). Hope this helps.
